Oulton or Angelsey?
Discussion
i have some money aside to do a track day early October, just wondering for people that have driven both which would be the better circuit? they are a day after each other, same price (£170!) for mid week open pitlane. I've done Oulton (twenety minutes away) and loved it.
the ultimate aim is to go racing next year, nothing big or competitive (citroen c1 in the 2cv endurance races and finish at the race of remembrance) and i'm sorting my licence out soon, im using the track days to get used to circuit driving as advised by a racing driver i know. so with that being said would it be worthwhile experiencing another track or hone my skills somewhere i now have a rough idea how it goes?
also, anybody in the North West area going to either? 3/4th October

I enjoyed Anglesey much more than Outlon Park. At Oulton it was much harder to not feel like you were constantly getting it wrong. One line feeds into the next corner, and feeds the next corner; so you get the first one a bit wrong, then the next one a bit more wrong as you were already wrong from the first one. And so on.
Days at Oulton have just felt like one long reminder that I'm not very good at this. Whereas Anglesey was much easier to just have fun 5 feet away from all the apexes, like a big Cadwell Park.

Well, if you have done Oulton, and you say you want to do the Citroen C1 plus RoR, then I would have thought Anglesey would be the obvious choice!
From a driver's perspective, Oulton is by far the most challenging, and technical, whereas Anglesey is faster and flowing! Both have their own qualities, and having worked at both, and raced at both, I love either!
Anglesey Coastal circuit tends to be favoured by most drivers, and the GP not so much! The GP would be used for the RoR, because of the number of cars on the grid!
Should you need any help regarding your ARDS course, I can arrange to do one for you at Anglesey at a time to suit you moreorless!! HTH

I'm inching towards Oulton , as it's closer to home should anything go wrong, just found out is a Javelin organised day, and have heard mixed reviews. Anyone shed any light?
Edit - both Javelin days
Javelin operate the largest number of days over the year in comparison to other track day organisers, and generally all their days are full! That in itself has to tell you something!! Colin who heads the business will not stand any misbehaving by people on track, and if they don't adhere to the rules laid down, they are sent home! Of course, because of his firm stance, he takes some criticism, but generally by the type of person you wouldn't want to share the track with! So don't let that put you off, enjoy whichever day you may choose!!Edit - both Javelin days

I'd go as far as to say if you're going to Anglesey, hope for rain as the surface is lovely and a bit less grip adds interest to a somewhat plain circuit. Also don't bother with the GP layout as the Coastal is much better.
If you're going to Oulton, hope for dry weather unless you're experienced, the barriers are close and the curbs are slippery...

Anglesey must be a bit car specific. It felt like a proper roller-coaster to me. "plain" certainly wouldn't describe it.
In fairness I haven't been in several years and last time I was there I was in a 98bhp Caterham on the GP layout so probably not idealHighlights were three 95mph spins at the fastest corner (in the wet) because I had been doing it practically flat and had convinced myself that it must be possible flat
If your a big fan of Oulton or Cadwell you might find Anglesey a bit... wide and smooth by comparison. The Coastal layout is much better IIRC.
Javelin are a great family business. Support them for this alone.
They book plenty of cars on, for the very good reason that, after the first 90 minutes, there are far fewer cars on track than at the start. 3.30pm, last time I was at Snetterton with them, there were about 5 cars on track, despite over 70 being booked for the day..
If excessive exhuberance on track worries you, just sit out the first 30 minutes.

I'd love to do both tracks, never been to either.
Only worried about the weather so late in the year.
I know it can rain any time, but in my car (395 bhp, rear wheel drive), track in the wet is a definite no no.
Last time in the wet I had a 3.5 revolution spin when I touched a puddle at 90 mph.
Lucky not to hit anything. Cost me a set of underwear, however.
