I'd like to take my R8 out for a track day, but want one that will have the lowest quotient of tts in it, so the only chance of damage will be me getting it wrong, not someone trying to provape a point and taking me out.

Who are the best organisers at the moment down South?

Also, are there any that let you switch cars? I fancy just seeing what the M2 is like when pushed for a few laps, but prefer not to pay twice, as obviously I'll be replacing track time in one with time in the other, not getting extra time.

Goldtrack I would think. They have a lot of high end cars on their days and the price is designed to deter the idiot and to ensure everyone present gets good track time.

or RMA.

Any of them will be good though if you give people space.

Certainly not Javellin, avoid like the plague if you have an expensive car. MSV are usually good at traffic management too

That's not always true, though, sadly. I had a moron in a Bentley putting my life in danger at the Nurburgring a few years ago, driving far beyond his ability as he tried to stop me overtaking while I was on a bike. Other drivers did the decent thing, noticed me behind, and lifted on the next straight.

Some track days black flag tts like that, and some seem to do a decent job of stopping them getting out in the first place.

Thanks, I'll have a look.

Motor sport events organise days a Castle Combe.
The one I went on was limited to 12 cars on track at any one time and the driving standards seemed to be good.
A McLaren 650 was having an outing, just 2 weeks old

Bookatrack for me. Jonny is a great guy, but doesn't stand for any nonsense. Not the cheapest any more, but certainly good value. Not sure about bringing two cars to one day, however if anyone is going to be flexible on that it'll be BaT.

Venue makes as much difference as the TDO. brands indy gets very busy. As does blyton. Cheap prices on those venues opens it up to people with less care and cheaper cars.
Silverstone gp is lovely and wide.
Bedford has lots of run off but boring.
Thruxton is usually quiet due to strict noise levels. (Although they are more lenient than their reputation).
As for swapping cars, they usually want reasons, so blame worn tyres or an engine misfire and most will swap.

I'd agree with this. Also more generally more expensive=quieter, regardless of the TDO. Ironically one of the worst trackdays I've ever been on is one of those mentioned above as being good - precisely because it was full of drivers with more money than talent and something to prove. It varies from day to day and in my track day experience the TDO is no indicator of the number of muppets who will sign-on.

However, car on car contact is extremely rare at track days so I wouldn't be overly concerned, you're far more likely to be in a crash on the drive to the circuit. Simply drive with a good awareness of what is around you and make sure you pull over and lift off in the passing places to let quicker cars past and you won't have any issues.

Second recommendation for Motorsport Events but I'd go for Abingdon airfield. Massive runoff and good management by the organisers. Circuits - especially Castle Combe - have less runoff and hard Armco.

I always feel that Goodwoods own track days are the strictest and most carefully controlled. Usually nice cars. They don't tolerate idiots at all.

If you're worried about coming off then I agree that airfields like Abingdon are good. MotorSportEvents run them and again are good operators.

If I was taking a nice car on track I'd book direct with Goodwood.

only way your ever going to be in a position where you are your only enemy as it were would be on a sprint day, somewhere such as curborogh where your on track alone, javelin do a sprint series where your against the clock but alone on track. but that means reduced track time as your waiting for your window to go out on track. you'll never really find a sure safe day though as mentioned above a lot of the more expensive days aimed at the richer demographic will have people with more money than sense which will show in their driving ability, whilst the cheaper days can attract people in a car they've purchased for £300 and have no quarms about crashing. you'd probably be better off looking at insurance and going for a track that you want to without worrying about what happens if it came to the worst too much.

Agree with Goodwood, depending if you attend 98 db track day 10 cars on track at any one time or 105 db day only 5 cars on track!!

Silverstone Grand Prix circuit or Goodwood.

If you do Goodwood you will need to pick a 105db day as you will be black flagged on a 98db day

I hope having more money than talent isn't an issue, as I think that describes me quite well. I drive an R8, but rarely win the office karting events...

Book tuition, it's the software behind the wheel that's the weak link. Take your time, you have all day.

I've had a decent amount of track tuition, I've done Bedford seven times, been taught round the Nurburgring, and had Ron Haslam teach me on bikes over a couple of days.

I've no worries about my own standard of driving (the tuition's made up for a lack of innate talent), I just want to avoid a scrote slamming into the side of me when he forgets he needs to brake for a corner.

Fair enough. I hope you find what you're looking for. I must say in 17 years of regular track days I've very rarely had an issue with a prat and only ever seen single car "offs".
