I've been playing GT4 on the Nurburgring Ring circuit for 2 days solid now, and i still can't put a faultless lap together !!!

I'm trying to swat up for my forthcoming trip there and Spa in May.

I'm starting to remember sections, but the bit in between the two carousels all looks the same, help !!!

I've been utilising the Nurburging ring in GT4 to learn where the circuit goes before I head there in real life (and yes I realize it won't teach me about cambers / bumps / surfaces irregularities etc.)

Comes in stages I think:

Learning where the circuit goes? easy - 20-30laps
Learning the correct line round every corner - harder, 100laps?
Learning how to string those corners together - who knows
Learning the "secret" special ways to be fast - a lifetime!

I know the real Ring extremely well and I can't put a good lap together on GT4 either! The lack of g-forces makes it very difficult to flow from corner to corner - and it's very difficult to judge the braking.

Many bits of the circuit are much easier in real life - the Fuchsrohre (i.e. making the left at the top) and the Karussell (i.e. not flying into and straigh out of it) are good examples.

My only tip for some level of success - is to use a low powered easy to handle car - like a BMW 330.

Despite all that GT4 is a damned good titter.

Have you done the "track day" in GT mode? Tuck in behind one of the other cars and follow them around. They sometimes tap the brakes in wacky places, but have a decent pace for you to try to match.

I'm having a great time trying out different cars I've seen at the ring, or always wanted to drive there. An '85 CRXsi set up like my old one, a friend's ClioSport, RX7s, NSXs etc. Haven't yet got a steering wheel, so not trying to hard, but still its a great simulation of the real thing!

cheers
Kurt

Now we get to the heart of the problem - you don't have a Driving Force Pro (or in fact any) wheel, right? Otherwise, what's this with the thumb, maybe it's best not to ask

No driver aids unfortunately, perhaps i should invest in one of these wheels, i did have one for the dreamcast, but it was frankly crap, are they better for PS2 ??

Oh yes, i resemble that last remark !!!

Hi Guys

If you want to be ace on stuff like GT4, you need one of these:
www.gamepod.co.uk/
I got a GT1 in black on ebay about 8 months ago from the actual company for £170 less than the price on the manufacturers website. Its great fun, and you can buy them straight from the manufacturer for just £299 including the steering wheel and pedals.
Have a look!:

Well worth the money, and great for any driving game!!! This will certainly give you better times on GT4 as it makes you feel like you are in the game

I agree. The 330 is the car I've driven the tidiest on the ring to date.

The CSL is a blast though!

Try the Rally spec Lancia Intgrale, it's the best combi of power and handling IMO,

I'm now starting to drive the ring like a local !!

Shame i won't be like that when i do the real thing !!!!

Good choice! I did 7:56 on my first lap out. Wiped out on the Arnco on my second lap!

Im sure I can trust you guys....

Is this game any good?

Now I play alot of GTR.so Im a real sim fan.

Im sure the cars handle well, and the tuning /range of cars is amazing but....
What puts me off most about the PS2 game is how crap the graphics look because of low resolution TVs.
(I cant play anything less than 1600x1200)
But I heard that GT4 can be played on a Hi-def TV, and as Im very close to buying one, I might check it out.
Are any of you playing it on hi-def?

Errrr, is that English Tiff ???

It's a Sony LCD, must admit, rear projections are only good for looking at from a far, as close up, they look very Grainy, it's about 5 years old now, so they're probably a lot better nowdays.

Great for the Nurburgring though !!!!!

Tried the Rally Integrale earlier; its quite fast but isn't THAT nice a handling car suprisingly: managed a 7:38 2nd lap, could have been a lot tidier. Tell you what though - had a go in the Monaro CV8, really good fun but a bugger to get under 8mins in - just scraped a 7.58 was pretty pleased. Nice handling car though, really good fun and pretty forgiving (far less understeer than the Integrale) but not that quick in a straight line surprisingly.
