I'm just after a bit of advice really. This will be my first ever track day. I'll be going out in my dad's 997 Carrera S in September. I've been told i'll be getting tuition when i'm there so i'll be taken out in my old man's car first and shown the ropes and then it'll be my turn. I may also get to have a go in a few other cars while i'm there.

So, any tips for a first timer? Other than don't crash that is, which i've already been briefed on several times biggrin

Take your time, build up your speed, don't worry about getting overtaken by slower cars.

Listen to your tuition and enjoy the day safely

As Vladikar says, be prepared to move over and be overtaken by cars that look like they have 1/4 the power, there's nothing wrong with that!

If you are moving over, lift off the accelerator, there's nothing worse than someone moving over to allow the car behind to overtake and they keep accelerating or stay at a steady speed making it impossible to overtake.

If you see any Radical-esque cars in the paddock be prepared to be amazed how they come out of nowhere to right behind you in a matter of seconds! biggrin

I'll happily echo all of that, there is every chance a new Porsche will be passed by an old 106 or any other such example, there is no shame in it whatsoever and if you both give each other room to breathe and a little respect you'll both be back to what you were doing before you crossed paths in seconds.

Also remember everybody starts somewhere, everyone was once where you / I are now, and everyone is there to have a good time as you are smile

Try not to worry too much about faster lapping cars coming up behind in the mirrors. Be aware of them but don't watch your mirrors all the time, focus on what's ahead.
