I looked a few pages back and couldn't find a similar thread.

I just bought an Rx8 for tracking. I did some track days in 300-500bhp cars that I owned that could make a lot out of the long stretches. (Bedford, Castlecombe were a couple I ran)

Looking for a good track with shorter straights and more tighter bends, turns, etc

ideally more set up for lower bhp Caterhams, Rx8, clios, etc.

I have an Rx8 out in France and know that it does get up to speed fine.. but really looking for somewhere I can stay in 2nd,3rd,4th gears for majority of circuit. where I can run with traction control off, for minor drifts etc wink

I was looking at brands hatch ( never been ) looks ok from arial view.. but wonder if there is somewhere else I should be looking at.. and there isn't a good source I can readily find online.

My car is SORN so I will be trailer'ing it to the track, even Bedford feels a pretty big stretch.. 90 minutes from Windsor would be the ideal. Am I asking too much?

don't care if it's an air field set-up.

thanks in advance!

Brands Indy for sure - GP if you can afford the 3-4x price hike due to rarity.
Thruxton if you dont have a silly exhaust. Its fast but not in a straight line.
Silverstone is good, I assumed my lil Clio 182 would struggle but if you are committed and can carry speed, the differential between slower and faster cars is minimal, and track width gives plenty of room for moving over without compromising your own lap.

I'm sure you will be able to enjoy your RX-8 at any UK circuit, and circuits which you might rule out for having long straights (Snetterton, Silverstone, Rockingham) might have slower infield sections which you enjoy.

Obviously you can't go wrong with Brands Indy, it's a classic- but even that is just a short layout of the GP circuit which features a couple of long straights...

Nice.. thanks guys. I see a couple Night sessions on Brands Indy for the 31st May and 6th of June.

will take it there!

  • I bought this £1,100 car as a donor for my French registered Rx8 ( which sells for 8x more as a lefty! ).. now that I've put two smashed doors on it from the donor car + a cracked rear bumper.. well the UK donor it isn't worth selling for the £500 I 'might' get for it now + the hassle!., so am just going to track it, track it, and track it. It's got under 50K on the clock and still smells like a new car
I will say.. I've had close to 12 cars, G60 Golf, Corrados, Rx7s, 300zx's, Skylines, Subi's an NSX! all of which I tracked.. and this rx8... for the silly money you can get them for.... such a good little chassis, handling motor.

+ if you see a Silver 2006 Rx8 out there with smashed passenger side doors.. giving it some.. well that will be me. say hi!

Long straights actually can be better for track days because it gives people more space to overtake, unlike somewhere like Brands Indy where you can end up in a train and not be able to power past.

this all day. Bedford GT too. Plenty of great corners and even some of the shorter straight bits are long enough to pass.
If your not 'racing' anybody you can also use the long straights to short-shift, ease off and cool things down. Cpt Sensible smile

Brands hatch is very easy to learn, but takes a lot to master. I could lap a coilovered 1974 celica with 140 bhp as quickly as a 390 bhp evo1 I had before it.

100% a handling circuit. Can be a little annoying in a lower power car if its busy, as more novice drivers in faster cars hold you up.
You cant drift though. They'll get cross if you squeal the tyres too much.

Lydden Hill is a superb little circuit, good value and generally more like a test day than a track day (in a very good way).
