I realise that the Cup 2 was designed for 911's and the like, heavier 1,300kg+ cars, which makes me wonder will they be ok for an MX5? As I have just noticed that they are available in the right size, but I wonder if they would never get up to temperature enough?

I am not sure it's designed for heavier cars - it may be that with the right pressure it will turn on quite quickly.

I would go for something like AO48s or R888R as they are probably a bit softer and cheaper, wouldn't think you'd get the benefit on the MX5?!

Depends what you want the car for, for a fun occasional trackday car I wouldn't run them as the fun of the RWD chassis would be lost with the sticky tyres

I want decent tyres to do track days with, I was just looking online and saw that Cup 2's were now in a size that fits, £118 each which seems reasonable enough, hence this thread.

GT3 is only circa 200KG heavier than your car;
thats 50KG per tyre (roughly)
I'm sure that you won't have the same contact patch size as a GT3 , so you should be able to get plenty of temperature into Cup2's
Regulate with pressure & ideally a temp probe across the width of the tyre, and you're good to go !
