I'm wondering which stock, street legal car with semi-slick tires as the only modification would give me the best track day/time attack lap time for 25K GBP? It has to be fairly reliable and not require too much maintenance. Can be both new and used, but not too old (so no vintage Ferraris wink). My current track car is a Mk 2 MX-5 and I'm looking for something similar but faster...

I'm thinking one of the current/previous generation of hot hatches (Megane RS?) would be the best bet, but maybe there's something I'm missing?

Caterham.

ETA: They are also enormous fun, brilliant to drive, make you grin, rear wheel drive, and easily (although expensively) upgradeable.

Sadly, Caterhams cost much more where I live, and are really difficult to get. Elise is one of the options. I thought about 111R specifically, but aviability is limited.

You're in Poland right. Pop over to the UK, buy a Caterham, drive it home.

Unless it's a track with lots of high speed stuff (so you need aero and power- e.g Nurburgring) - something like an M3 may be quicker than a Caterham.

So much will be down the driver though.

How would a TVR Tuscan/Tamora/Cerbera get on I wonder?

Relatively light and decent handling with more power for the straights.

Megane RS is bloody fast, mine is completely stock with Yokohama AD08R's and does better lap times than most similar types (faster than my old e46 M3) yet doesn't need any mods to be good/fast/reliable. It cost less than half your budget though. If you're worried about dull handling check the vid I posted in my thread about them in this section - they'll drift beautifully on turn in smile

A Cayman would be on my list with your budget, something rwd maybe?

Unfortunately we have steering wheel on the other side of the car so anything imported from UK is a no-no. Being able to pass safely is one thing, and You have to insure it which is possible but much more expensive.

You don't know how lucky You are - for example a decent E46 M3 costs twice as much in continental Europe...

In the rain at Silverstone I found that an AWD Volvo was the fastest thing wink
