Hi all- just a simple question as I've not done a track day before but am prepping for the summer.

Would it be acceptable to tape over window seals on a track day to reduce buffeting and rattling? Or would this get shot down in scrutineering?

But I hear they check for loose articles etc? Would tape be considered a potential loose article?

Morning Mike,

Taping over any door seals etc is acceptable but not really necessary on a TVR if i'm honest. You would be well advised to get the noise from your exhaust checked to see if in limit. Enjoy your first trackday , prepare for it to be a life long obsession. start saving up now thumbup

Thank you 77r, and massive compliments on the awesome Tuscan challenge and the record at Combe- CC is my local and is where I'll be spending most of my time though I wouldn't be too concerned about me challenging your time anytime soon biglaugh

I'm still running a standard setup for the most part so I'm hopeful not too have any noise issues but I'll be testing to be sure!

Haha, unfortunately I have a feeling you may be right about the obsession smile

If most of your days well be at Castle Combe as you say it is worth knowing that unlike most other circuits they measure the noise not
at 3/4 revs but at 4500 Revs.

Also if you have any Issues Merlin Motorsport are there during the week as will more than likely sell you something to help you out.

this generally means things inside the car that could potentially fly around and hit you.

With a helmet on, and going at full throttle wherever you can, in a TVR, I can't imagine you'll be worried about the wind buffeting tbh. You really don't have time to think about little things like that.

4500 rpm is 3/4 revs in a TVR Chimaera - I always tell them the red line is 6000 (it's around 6200, but there's an electronic cutout at 6200, so you don't go close to it).
Standard exhaust and with the cats still in place will pass at CC - but the limit is around 100-101 IIRC, so lower than some other tracks. Friends of mine with standard 4 litre cars test at around 95 dB. My decatted car can be anything up to 108 dB.
When you are near to booking, call the track and see if they will give you a noise test at a mutually convenient time. If it just fails by one or two dB, I can lend you some bolt on cans.
