Does anybody know if the driver on a car that's doing a track day needs to be insured on the road. The reason I ask is my daughter who is 24 wants to do some track days with me and it will cost and arm and leg to put her on for road use!!!

Nope, there's plenty of cars that are used for trackdays only and carry no insurance.

Nope smile

Some people get track day insurance for peace of mind but there's no requirement to have it or road insurance.

I'm taking the plunge and doing track days this year, done a few odd ones in the past but this year i want to do quite a few. Was just about to ask about in the event of damage to another car or say a barrier can you be liable for any costs on a track day?

Clearly the Motor Sport industry won;t allow this to destroy it...but on paper it quite possibly could?

What happens if say on a track day or a club race and you God forbid cripple someone in a crash, are you liable?

Generally you're not considered to be responsible for others damage if cars collide (extremely rare!) although if you've been an idiot and it's clearly your fault the honourable thing to do would be to stump up for the others damage. Most trackday insurance only covers your own vehicle anyway. Not sure what would happen if somebody was badly injured, I guess they may try to sue the other driver if they felt they were at fault.

Some circuits do charge if you damage barriers etc.
