Do/have any trackday companies ever run days where you drive 'the wrong way' round a circuit?

Do the circuits oblige the track day companies to use the circuits 'in the usual fashion' or can they chose to run the opposite way?

Which circuits, if any, would you like to have a go at backwards?

Nurburgring - and perhaps only that one.

Generally the design of the circuits and safety barriers means they are only able to be used in one direction.

However, I believe that Dijon-Prenois used to be licensed for use in both directions (though I've only driven it clockwise).

I went on a trackday at Knockhill a couple of years back when they ran the circuit backwards. IIRC at the time it was the only track in the UK that was licensed to do so. I really enjoyed the day, and felt the track actually flowed better in the other direction.

They do the rally stages at Brands backwards, but not the complete track.

I believe that the racing school used to have a "test" to drive it the other way.

Maybe a long time ago.

Obvious reason not to run tracks backwards is the overlap in the armco barriers for marshall access on race days, this causes a very serious hazard if your driving at speed the wrong way i.e. you could off and straight through one of those overlaps.

I've done part of the ring backwards when it shut for a huge pile up (they do it backwards in the eiffel rally too-search google for videos). It was bloody strange even if we were going slowly. I think the downhill braking zones into bergwerk would kill most car's brakes-you don't realise just how steep it is!

Knockhill is the only one I know of in the UK

Oh yes ,that would be crash central in reverse.

Funnily enough I was watching a Ring vid earlier and a Golf did a 3 point turn and went back the other way.

Knockhill is certified to run in both directions. A number of the 'double header' meetings run clockwise (the 'classic' direction) on one day, and anti-clockwise on the other. There are a number of anti-clockwise track days too.

I did a single venue stage rally at Oulton Park many years ago and we did almost a whole lap of the full circuit the wrong way round. It was very tricky, especially Lodge as the Armco is all wrong getting nearer to the Tarmac as you slide round the corner. As a racing driver rather than a rally driver I didn't like it one bit frown

They run Cadwell in reverse for a rally twice a year, normally ends up with lots of broken armco and circuit furniture as the run off is even worse in the opposite direction. Quite a few incidents at Coppice with cars coming down it with less than a cars width of run off.
