Gear linkage like a bowl of porrige!!!!!!

I have got a '89 Golf GTI k2 16valver. Not had it on the track yet. Been fixing and stripping. Got the gear linkage off and looking for some advice of how to set it up (best ideas win a cabbi in the navigators seat!!!!!if you dare!)

I've replace the gear lever housing ball joint and connection rod bushes! front and rear.

I found getting it off a pain in the A...! Will getting it back on be a much of a task and will setting up be easy straight forwrd o as difficult as it looks like it could be?
