Too many wheels.
Discussion
Two road cars, one trackday car, one motorcycle. Wifey won't let me have any more. So, this is the plan: sell the Elise, sell the CCM bike, get a new 525d and an old 3 Series for trackdays (but, er, keep the track day car at a, er, friend's and forget to mention it ...).
Now, I fancy an old sideways-special E30 3 Series, maybeeeee an E36.
By my reckoning (and assuming it's sound mechanically) I'd only really want to beef up the brakes and suspension, and wap on some serious tyres.
I've had a few BMs but never modified them. Anybody any recommendations in terms of suspension, brakes and wheel-tyre combos?

That's what actually set me off on this. It's sold, though. Had one about 500 years ago, one of the most sideways-ist cars I ever had. Full white colour co-ordinated, went fantastic with me shiny suit, highlighted hair, Buggles glasses and mobile phone the size of Stockport. 'Tastic.
Brakes weren't the problem, it was the rate at which I went through the rear 225-50/16s ...

I'm not suprised. At that price I was seriously considering buying it for the GF/winter car.
Problem with the E36 is they're a bit heavy and a bit uninspiring to drive.
Problem with E30 is that most will be shagged relics, most trackday E30s will be bodged shagged relics and to build a decent one will cost an arm and a leg.
think i underpriced it a bit. put it on pistonheads classifieds had about 15 enquiries and was sold within 24hrs to the first guy that looked at it (another PHer). lots of pissed off people who were waiting for the weekend. great car will really miss her. still; 2 road cars, 1 bike, another track car and the overwhelming urge to stick an e36m3 engine in a 2002ti shell is getting silly.
at least shes going to a syndicate thats going to use her properly.
PS whats wrong with the pads?

haven't heard many good things about EBC greenstuff
YMMV
i suppose its very dependent on application but i wouldnt hesitate to recomend them for a track e30. i say track cos they are really wooden and no grip till warm but once hot are fantastic - great bite, feel and no wear probs.
cheers

Anybody know this car, by the way? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=9837&item=4534331899&rd=1

Francis- what sort of life span were you getting out of the greenstuff? like a set per trackday or much better?
still ok after 2 track days and 1 ring trip and i brake like a lunatic. its the best way to make up time in such a comparitively underpowered car. - also seems to be kinder to the brakes than longer more gentle braking which i guess makes some sense...

dont know it (iain - pm me if you want my opinion)
if anyone buys it PLEASE move the rear harness mounting points. down that low the force of a frontal impact would translate into crushing the seat and your back. ideally should run over a harness bar behind the shoulders.
