I'm going this Saturday, but probably to watch as I don't want to lunch the new gearbox...

See anyone there .

Monday 2nd Sept. I've had to drop out, car having new cam belts fitted. I know of three who are going, 2 x Pauls, both modified 944 turbos. 1 x Robbie Celica GT.
Thinking about it; I will probably come along to spectate/grab a ride.

Hi All

Castle Combe was on the agenda for a few of us as 1st Timers. Just looking at the insurance - mad quotes for what was billed as a gentle intro, to get anywhere near a useful sum assured is in the £100's for one day, and to cover a full nasty is £500+ with 2K excess. Was just planning on 5/10 laps as a taster.

Any pointers for good day insurance?

I'm a 4.5 Cerbera by the way.

Cheers

I got stuck like this last year. To insure my Porsche against a total write off (which I feel is justified. Cosmetic damage I'll pay for....stuffing into the Armco and mangling the chassis I want to insure against!) was about £500 per Track Day if obtained independently.

So I just used Race Schools and so on instead that year...frustrating as the laps per £ aren't high and the instructors are all geared to the "introduction" end of the market.

As it happens that wasn't so bad last year...as I needed and introduction anyway. This year I got myself covered for Trackdays *as part of my road insurance* which is the ONLY way to go cost effectively.

So if you're desperate I would cancel your existing policy and re-insure with someone who includes Track Days..or wait until renewal time and make do with driving other people's cars (schools) until then.

God knows what I'll do if all Insurers stop including it. Maybe some enterprising club/company will come up with a Track only policy on an annual basis you can take out...but until then the above advice holds true.

Thanks Don - makes sense. May just go on the fly, take a bible, spare pants and a suicide pill in case I come off!

All the best.

Please, please, please DON'T! The chances of a prang especially if you are careful are quite remote. But accidents can and do happen and may be nothing to do with your driving.

You won't enjoy it if you're shitting bricks the whole time...

Of course Don - I was only kidding. I've just managed to stop sweating getting the beast up and down the drive without hitting anything or anyone. To hare around a track un insured is just begging for trouble.

Have actually take your good advice on the inclusive insurance route.

i cant get track cover as car is over 50k and age is under 30 boo hiss, unless i insure for the day or pay an exhorbitant fee.

gave it some thought though and realise if you bash your car at high speed you are never going to sell it afterwards and therefore best bet is either to risk it and drive at 70% in safety or buy a shed and rag it silly all day - second option is more fun
