If you can crack 2.00 you'll probably be the quickest tin top there. Most trackday times won't drop much below 2.10, a quick seven will get to low 1.50s.

A quick laptime in a seven is more like
1.43/1.44 on street tyres

Standard R300s with 175 bhp will do 1.47s

Er, the R300 championship lap record is 1:49.9 (as of 2014)

Are you thinking of Island?

Edit: Looking at your garage, I may have to bow to your greater knowledge/experience! - but those are the times quoted by Caterham anyway on race weekends

Not saying 1.40-somethings can't get done but they generally don't get done on trackdays and for sure if the OP was doing 1.43s he wouldn't be asking the question.

I
The lap record for a R300 is 1:47.896 in 2015, I should know my son holds it.

Steve.. op asked what was a decent time around oulton,no mention of track day,and if you have a clear lap what difference does it make.We have seen 1:47 in a 200 bhp Caterham on track days at oulton park on many occasions ( read from data logger after the event.

I don't doubt that you've done those times Craig but the OP asked the question in the trackday section and (no disrespect to the OP) if he goes out and expects to get anywhere near that pace he's likely to be dissapointed.

I usually average circa 2.12 in my pug 205gti. I had a friend give me a pax ride in his Clio 182 and he said he was hitting 1:56 territory.
I thought i must be really slow hence the post.
I know trackdays are not to be timed but we always look at vid footage afterwards.

2.12 is fine for a standardish 205 and most drivers, possibly some room for improvement but then haven't we all! Best bet is to compare your pace with other cars on the day as claimed trackday lap times can be about as reliable as dyno figures in for sale ads wink.

That's perfectly respectable for you and your pug. I'd say much better than average. However, I find your mate's claims highly dubious. You only need to look up results on the TSL timing website for tin tops in club races to see that as Steve H mentioned, anything below 2 minutes is very quick e.g. the front runners in the VW cup (golfs and scirrocos) are only just below 2 min. Similarly the Porsche club championship boys are in the 1.51 to 1.55 range and they're on slicks!
