Silverstone GP 13th September
Discussion
That's my second day at Silverstone with RMA. Nice people, they have good ethics at heart. But why oh why do they attract some drivers with hugely deep pockets and so little respect for others. By just after 11.00am, there had been seven red flags. Several as the track was being reopened and all drivers were on an out lap. The team at RMA did a great job of calling the driver in for a second briefing (a telling off and several deserved it). Nothing changed, the driving standards by certain individuals were downright dangerous. I really do like their approach to over taking either side. None of that was an issue. But why on earth do a few certain foolish, egotistical drivers insist of stuffing their Ferraris into the apex pushing you wide and nearly off track to avoid a collision. Thankully I had my eyes on my mirrors and avoided collisions. Such a shame, as without those fools it would have been a perfect day.
Agreed, there were some idiots there yesterday. Seven red flags in the morning session alone was a joke! The additional briefing did seem to help though as the afternoon seemed better. It's a nice track, very fast, but not really a Caterham track IMO. Having the aerodynamic properties of a wardrobe does effect the straightline speed somewhat . I do quite like the RMA setup though, the overtaking on either side rule does help, although you need to keep your wits about you sometimes! I liked the brief briefing too. Some of them drone on for about half an hour!
I'd put it down to being Silverstone and the high power cars thinking they can bully there way past because there's so much room. I've used RMA at Donington and had no problems at all. Their rules worked well and I guess with less room available and shorter straights, the speed differentials weren't as large so there were very few aggressive overtakes.
