Couple of Videos from Brands Hatch Today in the C63
Discussion
Another fun day in the big AMG, I love how the car clearly isn't made for racing but still refuses not to compete with more 'focused' vehicles. The car is running R888R on Bilstein PSS10s and managed 79 laps total with my fastest lap at 59 seconds dead but optimal lap of 46.85 seconds.
The Civic Type R belongs to my friend and we took turns in both cars during the day. I also managed to film a session POV which was different

Sorry, what does "optimal lap" mean?
It's if you put together the best sectors from all laps into one perfect lap, or as I like to call it 'the pub talk lap time'. On a track like Brands it's not that useful but it works well at the Ring where there are so many variables. So far at Brands, I've managed 'actuals' of 1.04 wet in an A220 CDI, 1.02 wet in the C63 and 54 seconds dry in my old Clio.

Haha, sorry very tired last night and just re-read this and looked at Race Chrono (the app I use with an external GPS module for all my track time) and there's something very odd going on with the sector times for some of the laps. The fastest lap was a 58.36 and I couldn't do much to improve on that with most laps around the minute mark. Apologies to anyone who was looking forward to scoffing at my previous post...
The Clio was a 172 Cup, stripped with composite everything, 200hp engine, 4 pots, KW V3s and other geometry mods. It weighed sub 850kg and is the one car I regret selling so far. I only have footage from 2013 in the car on one of my first trips to Brands and Race Chrono has moved phoned several times since then so believe me or don't, I don't really care

Lol good man
Have to say a 54 in a Clio with that spec is so quick it's difficult to believe!
A friend races his fiesta there and does 54's but that's on slicks and circa 350bhp from memory.
The club class time attack fwd record at brands is around 54 I think too?
Like the vid of your merc, they sound beautiful although having driven a £175k amg around the merc test track for more than 5 mins at full tilt the heat management was a disaster! It made crazy power and torque... For about 3 mins... Then overheated and made hardly any power... Oil and water temp off the scale. It was such a disappointment as it felt brilliant before it overheated and the brakes were excellent.
How does yours cope?

I don't generally bullst about such things, the Clio really was that quick. I used to have all the data in Race Chrono (the lap times are accurate at least) but Android had a bug where it would delete data not in a secured system folder and I lost all my logs which I was really pissed about.
Sadly the Merc has to run 'valves shut' on most tracks. I invested in the FI full exhaust when I bought the car (it's only about 18 months old now) so I could get on any track. Valves open it sounds like war, plain and simple.
Later in the day the temps were around 125deg oil and 92deg water (that never goes up), the brakes were ok but I'm not an abusive driver. My mate with Civic brought the Merc back in with smoke coming from the rear calipers which impressed me. The Civic was the quicker car on the day, no question that was consistently below the minute barrier and that's bone stock.
I've never had the Merc go into limp mode yet, maybe because I drive in manual and shift less aggresively than sport+ ?? I dunno.

If running race chrono you really need a 10hz GPS Bluetooth device. Internal phone GPS isn't accurate enough to get anything like meaningful data in my experience.
If you have video footage, try going back to the optimal sectors and time them to see what I mean.
Good call, I'll check them out. I have a QStarz 10hz GPS btw, I learned a long time ago about how st phone GPS refresh rates are.If you have video footage, try going back to the optimal sectors and time them to see what I mean.
