Hi guys , I bought a safety devices rear roll cage for my audi tt , just the rear section.
It is a bolt in one but nothing lines up.

I don't know what to do as I've a trackday at bedford in a couple of weeks!!!

Cheers
Liam

Cages can be an arse to fit, you sure you don't need to wrestle with it some more?

As above.

Also you don't NEED a cage for a trackday..?

It is not forced in at all , nothing is tight, I waited six weeks for a bolt in cage which this isn't doing a very good impression of!!!!

Did you go back to safety devices before posting on PH?

Or do you think we know more than the manufacturer?

In that case I feel for you, frustrating isn't the word. Good luck with getting it sorted. It doesn't have feet that need welding in first does it. Some bolt in cages have bases for the feet that have to be welded in.

They were shut, ive emailed them.

I've emailed them a few times. Aside from wanting my car for 6 weeks and £700+vat (pre-stripped) to do a half cage (rear only) they've always been quite good.

Call them at mid day tomorrow.

You will get more useful information out of them than you will on here.

It didn't come with feet or I'd have had the damn thing welded in in the first place!!!

Cheers for the replies , ill just have to call then tomorrow and argue with them!!

I recently fitted two safety devices cages and both have been a very good fit (E36 compact & clio 182).

Have they supplied plates to weld into the shell? Both of the one's i fitted have these.

Once the plates with the captive nuts are in you loosely bolt one side down and then have to manhandle the other side in and push the main legs apart to get them wide enough, Not really a 1 man job.

Whilst the cage is a bolt-in, you need to weld some spreader plates in otherwise you`re just bolting through the thin metal of the car floor which is not what you should be doing. confused

When welding in the footplates, you`ll weld them in position to suit the cage feet.

that`s what I`d expect to be doing anyway.

As has been noted to you already bolt in cages should still have feet and plates that need welding in place for the cage to bolt to, this is not even close to being the same as a weld in cage. Also to my knowledge all SD cages are black.. although I appreciate you can have them painted. Also is this a half cage or a full one? There is a technique to fitting cages, it isnt a 10 minute job.

Firstly, I must stress that although I have fitted neither a safety devices cage or a TT cage, I think you may be need to manage your expectations.

My cage (e36 coupe/OMP) came with weld-in plates/feet to which the bolt-in cage is bolted to.

I had to firstly ignore where I thought it would go, remove the interior, wiggle it all in & bolt it together and then work out where the weld-in plates/feet needed to go.

It could be that you are looking at what you think is where you expect it to go & expecting it to literally just bolt in...... It won't.

As has been said above the spreader plates/feet are hefty bits of thick plate that need welding in, in order to mount it to substantial mounts rather than thin plate.
