Looking for a wet biased tyre that excels for track use and ok in dry. Must be road legal.Anyone Had any experience of either.

Don't think I'd recommend Conti SC 2 or 3. Had both on my Focus 235/35 r19 and settled on Michelin PSS instead, awesome to the extent that it feels like a suspension upgrade. Hyperbole perhaps but they are a significant improvement in both wet and dry.

I run 205/55 rainsport3 xl.

I do find them a bit squidgy, but they are quite a high profile.

Conti S/C 5s all day every day, I have used them for exactly what you say for 3 years +, just make sure you do NOT get the AO or MO ones as they differ.

Copied from tyrereviews web site all tests tab for S/C 5.

Conti SC3s were awful in the wet on my car (195/45/16).

I've found AD08Rs surprisingly good in the wet and they wont melt like some of the road tyres do if the track is drying/dry. As well as RS3s and AD08Rs, I'd also consider Michelin PS3/4 or PSS or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2/3.

Uniroyal Rainsport3s are a great tyre, but you will absolutely rinse them on track. They are the worst wearing tyre I have every used. Just done a pair on the rear of my e36 323 (very conservatively driven) - had them on 6 months and about 6000 miles and they are almost down to the wear markers!

That. Very soft sidewall so will be squidgy with poor turn in, as well as soft compound and large gaps between the treadblocks. Absolutely not recommended for track use!

umm surprised no one liking them for track use in the wet. was also looking at the goodyear but not as good in the wet by all accounts. Any one used the Vredestein Vorti R

I liked the contis for road use but the blocks tore off under track abuse. An instructor commented that often happens with contis.

I use the uniroyals on track in the wet all the time and they are insane. These absolutely muller goodyears, contis and michelins in wet conditions.

Used on a E46 M3 track car. Nearly as good as racing wets.

Absolutely recommend them for track use (wet)
In fact a lot of the other cars in my race series have them on their spare wheels ready for the rain.
I haven't seen so many racers having the same tyre fitted for use in the wet.
Speaks volumes.

Watched a very wet Castle Combe saloon race earlier in the year. Those on Rainsports just drove away from the rest of the field (seconds a lap), and seemed to getter quicker the wetter it got..

They are quite an amazing tyre considering the price (very reasonable) and that most brand snobs wouldn't look twice at them and would head straight for the 'premium' tyres.

Rainsport 3 seam to be highly thought of here and elsewhere, constantly in peoples top three choices, so looks like I will go with them. I will report back soon as I,m on track in the pouring rain. I have been using scrubbed in Toyo R888's which have been perfectly quick enough in the wet but in recent years it no longer rains, more often than not, it is biblical torrents and most tyres would be over whelmed in those conditions. Thanx for your thoughts

I used R888s at a very wet Castle Combe sprint last year, and then put my Conti Sport 5s back on.. Went over 10 secs quicker over the lap. Different world.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Uniroyal's but 6000 miles to the wear markers in normal use? I will replace them with the same again though!

I use Rainsport 3s on my road Saab and love them. They go through biblical downpours, rivers, lakes at 70+ mph as if they weren't there. Awesome. Apparently they also handle brilliantly on a Fiesta van according to Mat Smith, who fitted them on his works van. And he's picky about handling...

Not used them on track, but on road use i got 21,000 miles out of the Saab fronts, and the rears are still at 3+ mm after 29,000. I agree they are soft compound, that's what lets you get heat into them in the wet.

Also, 77Racing, they aren't exactly expensive. My 235/45 17s were about £70 a tyre plus fitting.

Qbee,

Thanx for that. I have ordered Uniroyals and will report back findings as soon as it rains on track. See you at Brands 23rd July for some pit stop help, peter said you still up for it. Taking my own Spanner man I think, but you never know you might get press ganged into it yet.
