Megan 225 & 225 CUP
Discussion
I've been looking for a starter car to get into track days...
Everyone recommends Clio 172 / 186 / 197 etc.. But I prefer the look of the Megan 225
Is there a reason people aren't racing/recommending the Megan's?
As the 225 is faster on paper...
So is it handling? Power to weight? What puts people off?
Secondly, does anyone have a definitive list of the differences between the 225 and the 225 cup? As everything I read give me different answers!
Finally would you guys recommend either the standard 225 or 225 cup (unmodified) as a track car? As I'm put worried about my decision due to the lack of people out there with them!
Cheers guys,
Rich

As a specific track toy it would be hard to justify a 225 over a clio unless you have a strong budget to get the Megane upto scratch. Yes they the turbocharged motor and perhaps greater potential overall, but whereas a clio can be used straight out the box, a stock or even lightly modified 225 is a pretty lacklustre driving experience in my opinion, on top of which they aren't the best in terms of build quality and suffer a fair few known problems.
If you can stretch to an R26 then the Megane will start to make more sense, and if your using it on the road as well may even be the better overall package. But otherwise personally I wouldn't consider it.

A friend has had a couple with the latest one costing £1500 with 150k miles!
He loves them and has tracked them a lot, saying they're great in stock form.
He has other track cars too.
Another friend has an r26. Owned it since 50k miles and now has 100k with lots of track days and ring trips. It's been great for him and reliable. He also has other track cars too yet rates the Megane.
I'm now thinking of getting one too
I started a thread in this section (factory standard road car that's good on track) that may be of interest, the Megane is the first suggestion
