I'm thinking of running the MX5 down Santa Pod this weekend. Looking up the rules on the site it says drivers of open top cars must wear a helmet.

1.Is this enforced?
2.Does it count if the roofs up?
3.Is this helmet suitable for trackdays etc...?

Don't know much about helmets, so I can't comment on the last one I'm afraid!

Thanks guys. I've "loaned" my housemates helmet "virtually new, gold sticker etc".

Who have you loaned it to?

They also used to require some form of arm restraint in open top cars, to prevent your arm being cut off by the top of the door as the car rolled over - most people use a length of rope tied round each wrist and looped through the belt strap of the seat belt. Also, if your car will do >100mph terminal velocity, you require a helmet even if it's a tintop.

In my experience, enforcement of this and helmet requirements is spotty. And no-one has *ever* inspected my helmet to see if it's acceptable.

It's Loaned from my housemate. I know the history of the helmet from new so no worrys about quality.

It's a bit sung but i'll only be wearing it 1/4 mile at a time.

You loan things *to* people, not from them. You have "borrowed" your housemate's helmet.

I've always been asked to wear a helmet but they have never looked to see what it is and how old it is etc etc. Never been asked for arm restraints maybe just been lucky........
