Anyone have any experience of the Keevil airfield trackday this company runs?

Run-off area? Course? Suitable for 1st ever trackday? Organisation?

yes to all,

eds a top bloke, sets a good track.

not too fast for a novice, plenty of room and big enough to get some speed up if you want.

fast, slow corners + chicane.

Ta.

I sort of know of Ed from his racing at Castle Combe and posting alongside him on Ten Tenths a while back.

Just needed some backup from you chaps.

They don't seem to be replying to emails however.

Do you know how strict they are on the noise, as the Keevil day is 100dB and my car is kind of noisy.

You cant go wrong with MSE, especially if you are new to track days. Book it !

Good organisation. Always well run and Keevil is a nice little track.Fast bits and tight bits. Not very long. Difficult to damage yourself.

Ed is strict.Stands no nonsense.

Strict on noise as well. 100 dbs and they measure it!

Cheers for your comments.

How best to check dBs before booking?

Is it 4500 revs no matter what engine or the engine layout of the vehicle?

If you went along to one of their days just to look,
I'm sure they would happy to test you for nowt.

I think they ask you to rev to 2/3rds max revs so if 6000 is yr max then rev the engine to 4000.

Before doing it may sure yr car is well warmed up.
For some reason the warmer the engine the quieter.

If you are over the limit you can buy bolt on silencers (cans) from various places. The folks at
Castle Combe for one. Not far from Keevil or Hullavington.

They ask me to rev to 4500 in the Griff. For some reason the results seem quite high on their meter compared to some other places - Griff usually about 99dB.

Can anyone comment on how Keevil compares to Hullavington? Which do you prefer?

I prefer Keevil to Hullavington (which has only really got one fast corner).

As Stated MSE are top organisers - and nice people to boot. Recommended without hesitation.

As for revs - its always been 2/3 revs for me but when I failed in the R500 they sent me away for 20 mins to PROPERLY warm the engine, and I then passed.

Top tips (in case you didn't know)

VERY warm engine
exhaust over the grass not the tarmac
dip the clutch
make sure no cars are about to reflect noise
will be louder on colder/damp days

Thanks Steve

Some useful tips in there too - it has been cold each time I've been to Hullavington and there was a car right behind me on the last two occasions. I'm usually more like 96dB. So a 3dB difference.

Definitely like MSE and will try Keevil.
