Track club concept draws the punters

Autosport presence brings success to track car hire club

“Great value and a great concept”, was the summary of responses to the exciting track-club concept that was formally launched at last weekends Autosport International show at the National Exhibition Centre.

“The cost of doing the show made us think twice” said track-sense Director Stephen Docherty, "but in the end it was the right decision. It gave a lot of people the opportunity to put a face to the e-mail or phone call and a lot of people who weren’t aware of the concept previously were introduced to it and many signed up taking advantage of the £200 discount available at the show”.

Open days

Track-club will now focus on promoting the concept at track days between now and March and also plans to hold a couple of open days. These are planned for Bruntingthorpe on the 19 and 20 of February, and potential members will be given the opportunity to lap in at least four of the clubs cars including the E30 M3, Turner LMP and RenaultSport Spyder. Docherty said that the club would offer about 50 laps in five cars for £150.

The Turner LMP -- seen above on one of the club's new Brian James TT20 trailers -- drew a lot of attention. The club's car is still in the build process and this was the development spec car tested by Evo magazine and Phil Bennett.

“The LMP will be one of the cars available to drive on the track-club open days and with 360bhp per tonne it’s sure to be one of the most popular cars on the fleet” commented Steven Turner, the car's designer and Turner Automotive managing director.

How many days?

Easily the most popular question to the track-club team was that of the estimated number of days that membership would allow.

Max Stringer outlined the basics, “In theory it will be possible at the higher level of membership to achieve over 20 days of car hire however this would mean purely mid-week, off peak use of the lowest car level.  We believe that the average number of days will be between four and eight for the Sepang level of membership and 8 and 16 for the Spa level.  It’s impossible to model every scenario but we are 100 per cent confident that the club will be excellent value for money”.

Spend a load of time chatting to the guys on this stand, they took time to go through all the details, options etc. At first I thought it was almost too cheap and didn't think it would work but it's DTI back and they've really done their homework.

Any other PH'ers signed up?

Yup, paid my joining fee before Xmas. Really impressed by talking to Stephen about the organisation that has gone into it, and looking forward to seeing how it works out in practice.

I will be joining as soon as I get back from my hols. Looks like cracking VFM and they seem like genuine enthusiasts who are not just out to make a quick buck.

Sounds good to me, one of the things I asked was that if a few members hired different cars for the same trackday could we swap betwen them. They said as long as it's track-club members only driving them then it would be OK.

If we can get a few PH'ers joining we could do some days together.
