Now the 500's a gonner for our good cause (our house), trying to talk the missus into getting me a trackday for Xmas. 2 requirements are :

1. cheap as poss (her wish)
2. Not too far from home (my wish)

we're near Reading btw. Oh rather not do it in my old Golf either, but something a bit more fun

Any suggestions ?

Book-a-track rent Caterhams at not too much of an unreasonable cost. (Im trying to say I wish it was cheaper!).
You'd get more time than an experience day and you could do any track you wanted.
If you did Goodwood (not too far from you) you'd have it to yourself almost. Only 10 cars allowed on at a time.

Otherthan that try the Thruxton and Silvestone websites for their experience days.
I did the Elise day at Thruxton and drove 2-3 laps in a F355 after (prefered the Lotus too, but I knew I would!). You get a fair bit of time in the Elise and some good instruction too. Still not as much time as a track day though. It just leaves you wanting more.

A friend of mine just did monster trucks and crushed cars. Now that sounds like fun!

BookaTrack are at Castle Combe in February, that's not too far away and their Caterhams are excellent fun.

Hi Ed,

Done a number of BookaTrack days in their Caterhams and can't recommend it enough. Actually ended up selling my Chimaera 500 for a Caterham as its got me hooked!

They are exceptional value and I've just got back from Castle Combe with them.

I am personally a big fan of Snetterton and thats not too far from you.

Cost wise, if you factor in the insurance, wear and tear etc it very good value.

DONT bother with the Truxton days, done them and was very disappointed as you don't get much track time, very restricted in terms of how hard you can push them.

Probably fine if you are not familiar with the trackday scene and just want the experience of driving a Ferrari but do a couple of proper trackdays and they are less than impressive.

Give Jonny a call at BookaTrack.

Cheers

Simon

I couldn’t agree more! BaT are definitely one of the best ones out there, they attract a very courteous bunch, there are no crashes, and everyone has a really good time!

Engine rebuild completed I will be there for sure!

Combe is very close to you, so you wont need to spend hours getting there and back. great circuit to learn on as it is one of the widest circuits in the country
