Le Mans champ to head track academy

Track-sense secures Robin Liddell as head instructor

Track-sense, the organisation that's about to launch its new track-club concept, has just secured the services of former European Le Mans series champion Robin Liddell.

Robin has been appointed as the head instructor for Track-academy, the on-track tuition arm of the business. Alongside his international racing programme, Robin will be responsible for both the development of the course as well as leading the team of highly experienced instructors.

Robin was elected a full member of the BRDC this year in recognition of a string of successes on the international racing stage, including a win in the 2004 Daytona 24 hours and numerous class wins in the American Le Mans Series. Just a few of his career highlights from winning his first ever motor race in 1994 are as follows;

  • Daytona 24 Hours 2004 – Winner GT Class
  • American Le Mans Series 2004 – 7 races, 6 Class wins, 5 fastest laps
  • British GT Championship 2003 – race wins at Oulton Park & Snetterton
  • Le Mans 2003 – GT Class - 6th Place
  • European Le Mans Series 2001 – GT Champion, Porsche GT3

BRSCC Radical Enduro Championship 2000 – Championship runner up, four wins, four poles, four fastest laps and three lap records from only seven races

Robin has twice competed in the Le Mans 24 hours and although never having the reliability in the machinery to win he was awarded the famous ‘Radio Le Mans Man of the Match’ in 2003 and also completed just over ten hours of driving the second highest total time of any driver in the race.

Robin, who is a Team Pirelli driver, also has an extensive background in driver development and coaching including several years as the co-ordinator of the Silverstone five-day race school. Robin also continues to work in senior positions with manufacturers such as Audi.

Robin is currently finalising the structure and content of the three-level Track-academy courses. In addition to on-track driving skills, they will cover subjects such as weight transfer, wet weather driving, analysing your own driving errors and techniques to help learn new circuits and optimise your cars set up.

Courses will last a full day and will include a mix of classroom sessions and track sessions, both accompanied and unaccompanied by an instructor. The first level one Track-academy courses will be held in February 2005.
