Anyone ran both yet? I have rsr's on the back of a tvr and very happy with them, now the fronts need doing and 1st bits I've read about the nankang offering is that they are good especially in the wet for a semi Slick type tyre,

But what about general dry grip? Are they progressive or snappy on the limit?

I'm still pointing towards the federals as they are 15quid cheaper and I know they're good, but obviously better wet traction especially on the front if a tvr is tempting.

ns2r im guessing you mean..... the ns2 isn't a semi slick but the ns-2R is.

Yes beedub, was tired last night, I know your running them on your z4 and was going to see what they were like at Curborough but I need them changing this week. How have you found the dry grip on them?

well Ive given the nankangs a shot, gone for the soft compound as I dont do that many miles so dont mind them running out a bit quicker. will see you at Curborough! turned out at £80 each over £72 for the federals so hoping for good things!

I ran NS2Rs at Crystal Palace, very pleased with them

RSR isnt really a comparable tyre IMO, being far more road focussed than the NS2Rs

Federal do a full on trackday tyre, which is comparable but its twice the price (FZ01)

I would say they are aimed pretty much the same? Road legal track day tyre at roughly the same price?

This.

Just switched to the Nankangs, will give them a week to bed in & see how they go.

I think the Nankangs feel stiffer. The side walls on the Federals are incredibly soft.

the nankangs are incredible imo..... nothing touches them for the money!! They need some decent miles to scrub in however mine definitely aren't their yet, struggling to get the miles under me with work and family right now, after the practice session at curb i fully expect these to be scrubbed nicely but even the dry grip I'm experiencing at the moment is EYE opening.... my days of buying premium semi slick is well and truly over.

They have a very stiff sidewall which equates to a rough ride, i also noted the tyre itself was very heavy...

I supply and have run both.
The federal is becoming over priced and very in consistant, we have had good and bad ones that reflect very different lap times.

The nankang is reasonably priced and very capable.
When new they are slower than the Feds but once worn down a little they are just as good.

I recently entered a race with two identical cars one on Feds the other on nankang, the lap times was 100th's apart.

Hope this helps

I've had three sets of 595 RSRs destroy themselves on me. The rears of each set have formed a nasty split in the rubber right down to the canvas. Googling it I see I'm not the only one. My car is running c. 500 at the rear wheels so perhaps that does not help, but rather disconcerting...

Shame really as I found them a cheap and capable tyre and at almost half the price of slicks, what's not to like?

I've just bought some federal rs-r for the rear of my TVR, do I need to 'scrub' them in, if so what is the best way to do this.

its actually a brilliant place to scrub in tyres and slowly start to lean on them more as they increase in grip....

I've run a couple of sets of RS-R's. Good grip at first, did 52 sec laps of indy circuit at brands but quickly tails off and gets more noisy. Also a few of them have suffered from a split going across the carcass of the tyre. Worst problems ive had is balancing with one tyre being so out of shape it was un-useable.

Has anyone also had these problems with the federals?

I'm currently trying Kumho KU36 Ecsta. Not quite as grippy but I've done a few track days in them now and they are still cornering/braking at 1.1+g.
Having the same problems as the federals although I think I prefer it on the road and it's good on track too.

I go round in circles trying to decide what tyres to get!

Good to hear the experiences of otherssmile

this was the main reason i stayed away from the otherwise excellent RSR.... tyres deforming and cracking right through the carcass, read about it so many times during research that i decided to go for the slightly more expensive Ns-2R , so far this has been an very good choice, BUT.... my final reckoning is coming with a proper scrub in , warm / Dry day hopefully and curb sprint which I've done 100s of laps of over the last 10 years!! i will know very quickly just how good these tyres are and more importantly, if they give me the confidence to push alittle...

I'd be interested in your objective feedback then. I went for the RSRs and they're much grippier on road than the T1Rs they replaced - yet to try them on a track as had to postpone my last trackday due to a poorly car.

I was torn between RSRs and NSRs but could find much on the Nankangs hence my decision.
