Any experience of Blyton recently? I was hoping to get to Bedford this weekend but working put the blocks on that. Instead I've booked on for Blyton on the BH Monday. I'm in a new car to me so was hoping for somewhere fairly tame which appears to be the case there. Any tips welcome, cheers Steve

Depends how tamely you drive it smile But yes there is generally plenty of run off.
They now have several layouts and last time I was there it was the 'outer' circuit am and the 'inner' circuit pm.
Inner one has a tight twisty section at the end. Enjoyed both in my Elise.
Make sure you drive steady through the village if you're not trailering your toy - there's another thread about that on here.
Not sure what kind of tips you were thinking of but tuition is a given for me at a new venue.
Enjoy

Not driven blyton but living locally I often pop over for a spectate. There is plenty of run off. Being Lincolnshire it's flat so there's no difficult camber changes etc. it's rare to see someone get it very wrong. The first/last corner does catch out a few - mainly rear wheel drive cars putting wheels on the curb on the exit.

Who's the organiser? I can't see anything on the blyton calendar.

I`ve driven Blyton several times. Not bad for an airfield circuit, good mix of slow and quick corners.

As already said, get some instruction if it`s available, it`ll be invaluable.

Looks like it's Javelin and their site says it's the new 'Eastern' circuit.
Richard told us about it when we were there and made the new Curva Grande sound quite tricky.
Not many people will have been on that layout yet as it's very new.
Should be interesting - let us know what it's like.

Yes, it is Javelin. Sounds like it should be a good day - there doesn't seem to be many people signed up at the moment.

The eastern circuit looks fairly challenging from YouTube onboards. What are you driving? I might pop across.

I'm in a MX5 mk3 that has had a few mods although nothing serious power wise apart from new manifold and back box with a remap. I haven't had it long and only had it out once since the latest mods so I'll be interested to see how it is. I had a Cayman before that I was tracking but my pockets weren't deep enough for it! I doubt I'll be displaying any driving finesse but hoping for some fun anyway. Cheers, Steve

Your car will be perfect for Blyton, as suggested get some tuition early on and it will be a very enjoyable day.

Did my first track day at Blyton last week, great circuit on it's current layout. I had the 20 minute tuition and it was definitely worth the £20, my only complaint with the track is the concrete apex's they've put down which feel far too tall, I ran wide on the final corner and actually scuffed my wheel on it because it was so high.

See you there tomorrow; not many signed up, I wonder if we could do one layout in the morning and the other in the afternoon?
Outer circuit is more forgiving I think, Eastern more technical and has a high speed stop into the final right hander with less runoff...

Hope the day went well! What did you think of the Eastern layout?

We gave that an hour-long punt at the end of a sprint day earlier this month and I thought it was a very clever layout - in that it's a complete pain in the arse to get right hehe I don't think I strung a single decent lap together.

Curva Grande is OK in a well-sorted car, but in my E36 with shot dampers it was a bit more tricky.. all the ripples in the tarmac on the inside caused it to start oscillating, which is a bit eye-opening! Having that leading into a very tight left just as you naturally want to start running wide and getting on the power makes you rethink traditional lines.

On the whole I quite liked Blyton and would go back, it's more technical than I expected for an airfield track and most of it has plenty of tarmac runoff so you can perhaps push a bit more than you would elsewhere. Nice for first-timers. I wouldn't want to take a noisy car there, though, Richard took a dim view of a loud S2000 in our group!

It barely took them half an hour to swap configurations so I'm sure you could talk them into letting you do one in the morning and one in the afternoon. If anyone's putting a group together to go up soon, do let me know smile

Was a good day - mix of dry and wet conditions. I've not been to Blyton before but the Eastern circuit seemed quite decent to me although I'm not sure about the Curve grande. Although it's quite tricky it doesn't seem to be very rewarding even if you do get it right, but perhaps that's because I never did! The car was good too - need to learn to heel and toe properly now I have three pedals to deal with...

I popped along today to have a look, and meet a friend of mine that had gone to see his mate in his tracked M3.

Seemed a very quiet day, with loads of room on track.

A good day out, not too busy and and a little rain in the middle made things interesting, before drying completely again.
The Eastern Circuit certainly suits the agile car and I'm still not sure Curve Grande has one ideal solution.
Good to meet you Ian and Steve- see you out there again!

Looks like there are spaces for Sunday at Blyton with Javelin - any recent reviews of the outer circuit?
