Rockingham is launching a new selection of driving experiences for the 2005 season, enabling visitors the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Gallardo, Noble M400, Ferrari and even the brand new BMW M5.

Lamborghini Gallardo
With a top speed in excess of 190mph, the £117,000 Lamborghini Gallardo is a thoroughbred Italian super car. Plant your right foot on the accelerator and 4.2 seconds later you’ll be travelling at 60mph, with 125mph coming up just 10 seconds later, however this car isn’t just about straight line speed. Under the expert tuition from one of Rockingham’s expert race instructors you’ll be taught how to get the best out of the Gallardo on one of the technical and highly demanding circuits.

Noble M400
The small British firm Noble has won the universal praise of motoring journalists for its M400, recently described as one of the best track cars money can buy. As soon as you climb into the drivers seat and fire up that 425bhp engine you immediately understand why. With so much power on demand in a lightweight body, the Noble M400 shoots off the line, passing the 60mph mark in just 3.5 seconds and is capable of reaching 185mph. However, the Noble really comes into its own when you ask it to corner at speed, the sheer driveability of this car literally takes your breath away and demands the utmost respect from the driver.

BMW M5
Due to be launched to the public in May 2005, the latest incarnation of the ultimate sports saloon has been eagerly awaited and with a 20-year history the latest M5 has a lot to live up to. It not only doesn’t disappoint, it exceeds all expectations!
Don’t be fooled by the saloon car looks because beneath that exterior lurks a V10 BMW engine producing 507 bhp, propelling the M5 to 60mph in 4.7 seconds and onto an electronically limited 155mph. Delimitated the M5 goes head-to-head with the Noble and the Lamborghini.

Ferrari Experience
For the past three years Rockingham has given visitors the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the cars emblazoned with the famous ‘prancing horse’ badge – Ferrari. 2005 will be no different and for £299 you can say you’ve driven a Ferrari on the race track at Rockingham.
Seriously - they're the words the instructor used. He'd not long before asked if I do track-days (I do), and when I was pulled in, he told me I was wearing the brakes and tyres out!!!
So in other words, despite paying £169 for what is supposed to be minimum 20mins behind the wheel plus 5 mins "hot laps" with instructor driving, they expect you to drive it like you're on the road, not on-track.
He also encouraged me repeatedly to "change up earlier and use the torque of the engine!"
This is the normally aspirated, high-revving petrol M-power engine which redlines at over 8,000, yes??? Still, got my money back after complaining that it wasn't what it said on the tin, so mustn't grumble too much!
It might have had something to do with the fact that I was overtaking both the other M3s that were out there
- I think these things are aimed, strangely enough, at people who aren't REALLY into cars...I've done trackdays before, which clearly helped, but if you talk to some of the Honda guys I've been out on-track with, I'm in no danger of becoming the next Jenson Button!

They're really not worth it if you know how to give a car some stick, because you'll just sit there wanting to go faster. Saving up for a Palmersport day
