Caterham launches track video kit
Racecam allows you to capture those 'oops!' moments...
Caterham has announced its simple to use, in-car video system, the Caterham Racecam. Used by Caterham during the development of the new CSR, the kit car company reckons that its "unrivalled simplicity and affordability makes it a must have for all Caterham owners whether you race, track day or simply drive the country lanes."
A single camera kit starts at £495 +VAT, the twin-camera kit at £895 +VAT.
Caterham says its Racecam contains everything you need:
- High resolution bullet camera with mount
- Power supply unit
- Microphone
- Remote control
- Relevant leads/connectors
- Protective bag and a carry case.
Simply connect the kit to any handycam/camcorder with an AV input, says the company, and you can record all your action and “you won’t believe it” moments. If you don’t yet own a handycam, Caterham offers a kit to fill the gap, including the latest Sony HC-30 mini DV handycam.

Yes, but who wants a CCTV camera on their car?!
I am involved with a company called F1camera Ltd that are now offering an on-board video system based on a digital recording HDD device. For the price of the Caterham system you can purchase a complete solution from ourselves at www.f1camera.com

This is an expensive system when you consider you have to provide your own recording device, usually a standard camcorder.

I think the Caterham camera kit is the same as the Goldstar Racing kit www.goldstar-racing.com/goldstarracecam.htm. I've seen some recordings from these, and the image and sound quality is extremely good... Though I'm not sure how much that is to do with the DV used.
