Folembray 2002 - Part 2
Discussion
I'm meeting with someone on Friday who I'm hoping will take on the track day planning. I want to be in a position to run more events and it's taken me a long time to find an organisation to manage this for me effectively.
If it goes well on Friday then we should have a variety of different events lined up over the next year including P2003. More news as soon as I can confirm things.

WOt you get in the end Mike? Was it the SL?
Yep, got a 2000 SL with all the carbon goodies and R500 wheels/tyres - still you know what it's like I'm already thinking about more power
See my profile for a picture of it. Caterham used it as the mockup for the r300 press pictures - thankfully it doesn't have these wheels anymore and I've got a FIA bar on it

Very nice! Do you like the CR500's then, have you tried ACB10's? Brilliant tyres IMHO....
Hope to see you on a track day soon

2003? C'mon Ted you can do one in 2002 can't you?
Alternatively...........Thom,do any French track day organisers run events at Folembray - that we could all book onto & hijack!
Maybe, my discussions with one organisation regarding P2002.5 came to a bit of a dead end so far. Hence the new tack...

Andrew,
I've only been on a Goodwood trackday so far so haven't really had the chance to get to know the car in anger (as you probably know Goodwoods not an ideal circuit for a Caterham, too many flat out straights and very little run-off!). Keep hearing about all these different tyre choices though.
As it happens the back tyres are shot (managed to aquaplane the rears at 70mph going up the hill to Caterham) so I want to do one more (dry) trackday and then change all 4 tyres for something a bit stickier (and I think they're also significantly cheaper than CR500s).
Interested to know if you're enjoying the SLR as much as the Cerbie?
From my point of view it's (obviously) a completely different car to my previous Tuscans but none the less, it's very entertaining (although I couldn't face the trip to Le Mans in it
Cheers,
Mike.

Gotta check this out...
Basically the Folembray track is open to anybody who want to drive their cars on; As far as I can remember it' s fairly cheap - something like less than ?40 per half-day -
Some clubs happen to rent the track for a whole day, just like Ted and Mike Field did last time, like the 911net based around Tourcoing.
Either we come as "tourists" and drive among mk2 Golf GTI or we simply rent the track for a day...But it is out of question for me to organise something without Ted's approval.
If some of you are interested, I could have a look and organize something with my 944 mates (don't worry, the fast ones ).
I have to say it would be quite of a relief to see some 944 Turbo thrashing past any TVR after the huge humiliation felt in Spa (thank you Donald ...just joking )

Mike
Don't think the ACB10's are that much cheaper than CR500s, from memory they are about 90-95 a corner depending on size.
As far as the SLR is concerned, you're right it is way different to a TVR, but I'm having so much more fun at trackdays in it than I ever did in the Cerbie, which used to roll too much, you had to brake much earlier, etc. So much less compromised and more focused on one thing, so definately the best money I've yet spent on a car! Got some spare rims and trying to find a cheap source of slicks now...

Right, had my meeting today with one organisation. Should have some interesting UK track day options coming up as a result of that but they can't cater for the French angle so I need to revisit that one and talk to some other people again. Nowt ever simple
