Hoon round Bruntingthorpe for charidee

Provide dream rides in your pride and joy on 25th September.

At its driver of the year award, PHer midgetmagoo's employer Travis Perkins is hosting a track day for charity at Bruntingthorpe. It will be around the tower area, with the normal circuit be split into two and the track day at the bottom end (Indie circuit).

Maximum number of cars on track will be 20 so you should get some decent track time. As an addition, and only if you are up for it, you will be able to offer dream rides to the people at the event.

The clerk of the course is Pat Jackson, whose company Drive Action runs frequent track days there, will cone the circuit to make it more interesting. He will also supply marshals and briefings, and ensure that all safety requirements are adhered to.

The circuit will be available from 09:00 until 17:00. Helmets must be worn (can be hired on the day). Track briefings will be at 09:15 followed by 'ducks and drakes' familiarisation. Novices must have a least one lap as a passenger with an instructor and tuition can be purchased from the instructors on the day.

If you want to go, you must contact midgetmagoo via her profile: as this is a private event, you cannot just turn up on the day.

It will cost £55 for the day, including all food -- bacon rolls, hot buffet lunch, teas and coffees. All money raised from the track day will go to charity (NSPCC and Macmillan Cancer Relief). As TP is covering the cost of marshals, clerk of the course etc., all your money goes to the charities.

Because it's the Indie circuit and quite away from the meters I've been told not to worry about noise levels.

There will be artic lorries and a fire engine on the main circuit so our noise shouldn't be an issue.

I was there last weekend (Smart trackday, don't ask) a HSV GTS which was there to do some demo laps, was kicked off for being too noisey. It was quiter than my Tuscan.

I'm not sure if it's different because it's a private event but the clerk of the course has told me not to worry and as I say, the event is a truck driving competition and they will make a lot more noise than the cars.

Is there a map of the part of the circuit the cars will use?

Alans was quite right, his TVR on start up was louder than my GTS, mind you I did trundle out anbout 11 AM on a Sunday morning, it was the track ownner who quickly got in touch with the marshals to have me removed on 'noise' basis.

Don't fancy going again to be ejected.

If you look at the ariel view of Brunters on the post, the area that we will use is the furthest loop (top right of picture). It look pretty bland but Pat Jackson is going to cone it to make it more interesting.

Hi, can you please double check about the db limit as mine is very load, possibly 120db+. I know it's for charity but it would cause some bitterness to be kicked off a circuit. Forewarned, forearmed etc.

Hi Alan

See your Son's smart in the background on your home page, hope you got it sorted, yes I did sort the beemer out not to mention a P1 scooby that wanted to play, must have been the frustration of being 'ejected'.

Hope to catch up with you again.

Cheers

Will

I've got a call in to the Clerk of the Course. As soon as he comes back to me I'll let you know.

Thanks for the interest.

is this a pay on the day event? also would my car be abit slow in comparison (top speed of 85 mph), dont really want to become a rolling road-block. but otherwise im quite interested in some extra practise.

Nope, cant get enough of it. Ive been looking back at the videos i was doing onboard my car, so looking at my lines, speeds and times etc on the short course i was managing about 1 min 55's and on the long course about 3 min 15's.

Wish i had the roadster coupe to play with though!

Have now spoken with the chappies at Bruntingthorpe.

Their comments are as follows:-

"120db is very, very loud. If you drill the exhaust and put 2 bolts across in a X and put wire wool in then it will stop the resonance.

Tell the guys to come anyway as we are quite far from the sound measurement equipment and it shouldn't be a problem"

Doesn't sound like much of a plan to me, but it's your choice.

Love to see you there but understand if we don't.

Thanks for the interest anyway.

whoops sorry, I missed your note.

I guess the choice is yours.

The cars that have shown an interest are Nobles (x3), TVR's (x8) an Aston, a Skyline and an Exige. A Mini Cooper S and a few others have also shown an interest but not comfirmed.

As there are so few people attending and we have the track all day, I'm sure we could sort you out. If you decide to come PLEASE mail me! This is a private event and I have to inform the organisers of names, etc.

sorry to go on.
