Last chance to pilot a TVR Tuscan this year

Topcats Racing now offering eight more drives for 2004

Topcats Racing, one of the stalwarts of the TVR Tuscan Challenge, is offering a new and exclusive date to enjoy a driving experience of their life on the Silverstone GP Circuit on Wednesday 27 October. Customers will get a special 'end of season' rate of £450 (plus VAT) per person, which is £100 (plus VAT) less than the normal cost.

Details

Customers will be driving a 430bhp AJP V8 powered TVR Tuscan Challenge Racecar, both ex Michael Caine (now a TVR Le Mans driver), one of which is his 2000 championship winning car which still holds a number of lap records. Both cars remain in exact race specification as for the TVR Tuscan Challenge Championship, and both now currently race in the Britcar Endurance Championship where they have both had podium finishes. On its first ever outing in the Britcar Endurance championship the TVR lead for several laps from the start of the race ahead of the all conquering DTM Mercedes of BTCC driver Andy Rouse and his son, Julian, which until then, no other car had been able to do.

Topcats offers a unique experience, unlike any corporate trackday. There's no restriction on power or revs and, if the driver is capable, he/she will be encouraged to push the car to its limits. The whole emphasis of the day is to give every driver the opportunity to really drive the cars hard and explore the handling and characteristics as well as improving their driving technique and racecraft. Instructors Richard Fores and Phil Brough are very experienced racing drivers and have instructed in the TVRs for the past three years; Richard Fores, has in fact raced the Tuscans in most of the Britcar Endurance rounds entered.

From track day to racing

If customers are in any doubt as to the authenticity of this driving experience, just ask TVR car club member, Andrew Farrell (PHer Maxwell), who went straight out and got his race licence after doing the Tuscan Experience with Topcats. He entered the very next round of the Britcar Endurance Championship at Brands Hatch with the team for a three-hour endurance race sharing with drivers Warren Gilbert and Charlotte Osborn (of which Andrew did the first hour and a half) and ended up on the podium, taking home with him, a very nice piece of silverware. You may have seen Andrew on Sky Sports TV standing on the podium on the control tower balcony looking rather pleased with himself.

Other members to follow in his footsteps are Chris Smith and Callum Hair who have both 'passed the grade' and are now in the process of preparing themselves to join the team for their debut in the Britcar Endurance Championship. Peter Humphries (PHer greeenv8s), who has done at least two Tuscan Racecar Experiences with us every year was good enough to get his race licence long ago, to get in the Tuscan and show the others what for. And the boys from the TVR Speed Championships did the Tuscan Experience with us in May and were so addicted, they've decided to make it an annual event.

We can't guarantee that we will make racing drivers out everyone, but the intention is clear.

There are eight places available for 27th October. However, due to staff holidays, please book by post or email only, and customers will receive confirmation on or after 4 October..

I was one of the aforementioned Speed Championship-ers, and I cannot recommend this day enough. Especially at £100 off!

They are, but Warren and Charlotte have been on honeymoon. They should be back now so give them a bell...
