I've posted up a couple of clips from last Tuesday at Silverstone - one showing a full lap and another showing me closing up to DustyC before he kindly let me through on Hangar Straight.

This was my first time on a proper racing circuit, but definitely not my last. Advice on lines, driving style, etc would be mucho appreciated.

Silverstone isn't an easy track to get to grips with because there are so few visual references. There are a couple of places where you turned in a little early, and you ran far too wide on the way out of Maggotts which compromises your line into the following left-hander. Very impressive driving for your first time on track though. I hope you will get more instruction, clearly you've got the talent to take advantage of it.

Super stuff. You might alter the camera angle a tad to get a better view around your helmet - on some corners all you could see was the back of your helmet - but this shows you straining against cornering forces so that's alright then!

As to Peter's comment about instruction - its just the best investment you can make. You can always tell which cars have the instructors in on a track day...they'd be the ones overtaking everything in sight...brilliant fun. And you always go so much better afterwards...

Peter: That whole Maggots/Becketts bit is a git for a track numpty like myself. The entry/exit of every part of it seems to be a compromise - there isn't a "clean" turn-in,clip apex,run-out part to it at all. Stilll - that's what makes it a challenge and fun!

Maggots / Beckett is a really interesting corner and the line I took was actually the one the instructor showed me.

His approach was to balance the throttle through the first part of Maggots until you can see a straight line in to the apex of Beckett and then use that brief straight line to brake hard. It wasn't an intuitive approach (for me anyway) but I think it was actually quite fast. Have a look at the Dusty clip and you can see how quickly I closed on him through that corner because I could carry more speed into it.

Edited to add - just realised you were referring to the exit, not entry Peter. Thanks - noted.

If you mean the one on the left that's the speedo and yes it sometimes drops out for a few seconds - probably a dodgy connector on the sender according to Silverstone TVR so it's on my list for warranty work.

Yep - well spotted, I haven't got any heel and toe technique going yet so with all the weight off the rear during the shift down to 3rd I locked up briefly a few times at that same point. Definitely need to work on that....

Speedo needle approx vertical which IIRC is about 120mph. I was watching the rev counter more and that was between 6500 and 7000 in 4th at that point.

Good clip, thanks.

BTW, Is that a silver grey CSL in front of you at the start of the clip, if so have you got footage of it passing? It might be moi!

2.25 is good if that is your first time out there.

I could comment on not using the "Phil Bennett" line through Becketts, but I spun using it, so I won't...

As a comparison, the CSL managed 2.18 (but it was my first time on the GP circuit).

The black CSL managed a 2.15 which is very fast!

These times where dowloaded from a DL1 after the event and were indicative of car loading and not timings per-se. Ahem.

Not sure if it's you - I'll have a look back from that point and see but can't do that until the weekend - watch this space.

Also depending on what comes into the field of vision I may have a pic of you parked on the beach... if you want to see it

Great lap times - as I said on another thread I thought both the CSLs looked very fast both in a straight line and in the twisties. I know I have some footage of the black one blitzing me on Hangar straight and most likely have some of you coming past me somewhere.
