its my mates 30th coming up and i want to get him a proper driving course/day.
something where you can learn proper driving skills such as heel and toe,car control etc...

not looking for a "drive x number of supercars" experience.

any recommendations would be much appreciated as i find its better to ask people who have actually done these things then take a blind dip
or if someone could point me in the direction of a thread thanks

Don Palmer is quite good if you want to experience the limits of the car in a safe and secure environment (ie. out of the way of the numpties on the roads) but he doesn't do all that much on improving your driving for regular driving.

John Lyon (HPC2001)is an excellent teacher, an advocate of roadcraft techniques and police driving skills, incl. your heels and toe, etc. But he can be a bit verbose at times.

Hugh Noblett (Cadence Driver Development) is a real pussy cat with a similar style of teaching as John but tends to design training days around your requirements rather than it being a specific course as per the HPC stuff.

All of them have websites (find them through a google search) and you can give them a call to discuss your specific needs and they'll send you some info.
Hope this helps.

1stLotus also very good VFM. All about car control and he'll adapt it to whatever level you're at - heal & toe, trail braking, left-foot braking etc.

I second garfield's comments. Based on personal experience, check out my comments on this thread with their details:

Cadence can be found at www.cadence.uk.com and RideDrive at www.ridedrive.co.uk

Edited to say that this might be worth an enquiry too:
