I think quite a few people are going to the Ring on Monday afternoon. I'm sending out the event info for Spa this afternoon so I'll mention it in there - let's try and get an idea of who's doing what.

I'm going over on sat (staying at sliders). Doing the ring sat eve/sun/mon then moseying (sp?) up to spa for the tues. Lovely. (Red 964RS. Balding bloke squeezed into seat).

A good meeting place at the Ring is the, er, car park(!). Hopefully it shouldn't be too busy, as there is a 6 hour race on the sat, so there won't be too many weekenders there. Once we figure out who's in what, it should be fairly easy to identify people....?

Shall I bring my leathers to wear in the car then? Just for you.

I can also bring my johnny suit (look on Scott Leathers website). May be a bit too kinky for some and tip them over the edge (Melindi)...

PS Phat, I presume you're rocking up in the CSL rather than the gixxer?!

I'm off to look that one up.

I've never seen bikes go round Spa - I imagine it would be character building and a true test of the sphincter.

How eloquent! I'm now going to chew my way through some calamari!

PS It can't be a lot faster than silv GP on a bike - the left hander before bridge is taken flat in fifth, cranked right over....

PPS ... I can feel it tightening right now

Hi,

this is my first post here. I've looked at some threads before silently but not realy been active.

I will be going to Spa for the track day. It's my first time there and I wanted to ask a couple of questions.

1) I am tempted to go to Nurbugring (sorry for the spelling) but I am very apprehensive due to its reputation. Are there any instructors there? Are there similar rules to trackdays like not diving into corners to overtake or passing only on the left?
2) I was thinking of returning on the 20th after the track day but I wander if that is wise. Is anyone doing the same or is it better to rest and leave the day after?

Many thanks for any feedback

Philip

defo go! best track in the world!

not done it with goldtrack, but they'll be able to tell you if instructors will be there. if so use them.

don't be worried about the track. yes its dangerous, but only when you THINK you know it.
novices go round at their own pace, which will be dictated by the fact that they don't know where they are going!
i've been there when 2 east german lads went round in a trabant! got a round of applause when they got back! at the same time there were 600 bhp skylines, GT3s etc lapping. they'll go round you...as will the bikes.
so go have fun. meet people, talk cars, experiences etc.

don't drive home after a day at the ring. you'll be knackered! have a few more beers and more chi-chat.

but do go! when you're old and its shut you'll be able to tell you kids you did the ring.

PS you WILL go back. everywhere else is just practice!

Thanks for the heads up Andy. I am definitely thinking about going from Sunday so that i can do the Nurburgring. I will call Calum and see if they will be there on monday.

I will defintely also stay Tuesday night and leave wednesday. I plan to stay at the hotel that Melindi mentioned in the event info brochure.

I will be in a blue TDF 355 GTB. i hope to see you there and maybe bum a ride to learn some lines.

Cheers
Philip

Phillip,

As you're in the same part of the world, I'd definately go, because as Guillotine says, it's a fantastic place, even if you then decide you only want to do pax laps and call it a day. It's only 100 miles away after all.

I'll take you for some pax laps (at a sensible pace) to let you know roughtly where the track goes and also point out some of the 'problem corners'. On public days there are no instructors there, but there will probably be lots of people who you can cadge a ride with. It's only dangerous if you start to overcook things where you think you know which corner is coming up next. There is also the added danger of oil spills, etc, but these could occur on any road anywhere in the world. The majority of people ride/drive sensibly, i.e. with consideration for others on the circuit, but you can have some VERY close calls with bikes coming down each side, fully committed into corners, which tries your concentration (and patience) for a while!

In the wet, things are a little different, as the surface grip changes from bend to bend, and also in some of the bends where they've been resurfaced, etc. Definately a time for caution, esp in RWD cars.

I am planning on heading back on weds to catch a 1pm eurotunnel 'crossing'. I'm also staying the the Roannay.

Hopefully I'll see you in the car park?

Cheers
Fergus

Thanks fergus

For anyone going to the ring for Monday are you planning to leave UK from Sunday, stay at the ring and then go to Spa on Monday after the action OR will you leave Monday from here, go to the Ring and then head to Spa for the night?

By the way, just tired to book the Roannay and it is full for monday . I have to find something else.

355fiorano - if you are going to stay at Nurburgring on Sunday night then see if you can book in at Am Tiegarten. Their restaurant - Pistenklause - is legendary. (apologies for the spelling!)

Calum and I are trying to arrange things so we can come to the Ring too. It depends which car we have to come in and I'll know that after Brands GP tomorrow.
