Harry's laptimer app for iphone
Discussion
Has anyone on here tried this? The reason I'm asking is I can't find out a yes or no answer via google as to whether you can record video on the app or if it's just data that you can then overlay onto another video?
I've seen some that say yes there is video recording then other pages that have no mention of it at all. Please help it's doing my head in now!

Hadn't heard of it before, so just looked it up.

Looks quite funky. I guess the biggest problem is mounting a phone in such a way as to not attract the ire of the marshalls.

You can record video if you purchase the full App or the video add on / in App purchase.
As said above mounting the iphone securely is the biggest problem, I've got tomtom a iphone cradle but that is only a suction mount, so no good for the track.
The video and gps overlay is very good quality especially if you pair the phone to an external blue tooth gps receiver.

This has just decided I stick with another iphone next month when the contract with my 3gs is due for upgrade. Sounds like a lot of fun can be had with this app.As said above mounting the iphone securely is the biggest problem, I've got tomtom a iphone cradle but that is only a suction mount, so no good for the track.

Thanks for the info gents.

Used the app on several occasions - works ok, but needs an iphone holder with GPS amplifier (such as a tom-tom holder).
Has some neat functions. Video-Overlays work ok as well, but the speed indicated lags a bit behind, as the GPS sample rate of the iphone is too low.
Other than that I can highly recommend it.

The tom-tom phone holder (which I use) has a suction mount and can be both adjusted in angle and be rotated, so the phone can be used horizontally and vertically to get the disred camera angle. I believe most other Iphone holders are similar (it is important that it has GPS amplifying capability for Harry's app to work properly though). It transmitts very little vibration so the pic quality is good, sound quality is ok also.
One other fact that is nice about the app, is that most track layouts can be downloaded directly within the app, so you not only have the gps plot of your car, but the track's limits also, so one can judge lines, braking points etc.

We've not had any issues with suction mounts on trackdays yet however, we can almost hide the whole array behind the sunstrip.
Harry's laptimer is a brilliant piece of kit. Here's a tester from Snetterton where we stuck a mic out the back taped above the exhausts. We need to have a play with the positioning and it's not a flying lap but you'll get the idea. Very interested in the OBD2 thingy!

Further to E36Guy's comment above here is a video at the ring. For an amatuer trackday enthusiast Harry's Laptimer really has more than you need! It is a well thought out app with loads of functoinality. A bargain if you ask me!

I have two different mounts to hold my Iphone, one is a suction type that I bought from Ram Mount
http://www.ram-mount.co.uk/apple-iphone-4-holder-p...
http://www.ram-mount.co.uk/suction-mount-standard-...
It's a very good bit of kit and the suction is very powerful with no vibrations
If the marshalls at the track dont like it then I have a custom mount specifically for my S2000 which can hold any camara/camcorder that fits in between the headrests
The OBD2 reader is a wifi item that plugs straight into the port

I bought a cheaper unbranded version from ebay and it works just aswell IMO
