My Very First Trackday. Any recommendations on where to go?

Looking to book my first trackday. Was going to do a Walshy day first, but unfortunately all of August is fully booked.

Any track recommendations for a complete novice or certain Track day organisors?


Will be looking to get some instruction, but also somewhere that has ideally plenty of run off?

Live in the midlands, but obviously don't mind travelling.

Donington! plenty of room there, get an instructor, and blag as many laps as you can too- great way to see other styles ( not always the right way round a track but good to watch! )

Doesn't really matter where you go, just get the instruction and don't try to be the fastest guy there and you should be fine.

Definitely go on a novice day. My first trackday was at Cadwell and it was fine. An airfield type track like Blyton or Beford would be safest with nice big run-off areas but I didn't have a problem at Cadwell and there were no damage incidents on the day I was there. Book some instruction too, it's the best performance modification you can do. If you have a larger, heavy car I'd go to an airfield; something nimble, Cadwell would be fine and it's a gorgeous track.

Venue doesn't matter so much. I'd recommend 5 or 6 laps alone, and then get an instructor. Guaranteed the difference you will experience between your driving from beginning to end of day will put the biggest smile on your face ! Good luck

I did a wet Cadwell in November, nothing like jumping in at the deep end!

My 1st ever track day I was spinning off all over the place (Anglesea sp?) but then got instruction in the afternoon, as said already its the best mod you can do. I'm certainly no expert but as long as you listen to the instructor and dont try to be the fastest by the end of the day you'll be loads faster & safer anyway.

Its addictive, enjoy.

I would recommend an event run by Motorsport Events. They are mostly airfield days, and very well organised with a wide mix of cars and experience. I have attended several with them, one at Colerne and 5-6 at Abingdon. They also have instructors at about £20 for 20 mins, well worth it for a newbie. You dont get race teams testing like I'm sure I have had at Silverstone before either!!

Really enjoyed it and can't wait to book my next one. Hammered it down with rain on the sighting laps which was a little daunting, but followed everyones advice and tried to build up slowly and not push to far too fast.

Saw a few grey elise/exiges (seems a popular colour) so I guess you passed me at some point. lol
