Are YOU insured on track days?
Discussion
Chaps,
I am renewing my car insurance soon. I want a policy that covers me for track days free of charge.
I have researched previous threads on this matter and it seems almost no companies offer this deal any longer.
Now I know about Liverpool Victoria and how they have put it in writing for some PHers that they ARE covered on track days. However, PHer Daz (owner of tasty 996 Turbo X50) found that they wouldn't cover him for track days because he wasn't a member of the CSMA (Civil Servants Motoring Association or something). I am a GP and I therefore work for the government, but I doubt they'll let me join the CSMA, although I haven't tried yet.
So is there anyone out there who is 100% confident that they are covered on their EVERY DAY insurance policy for track days? I know getting covered on classic policies is much easier, but that isn't practical for me.
Thanks.

yep ,
I am insured with Aon, having applied thru the RMA. They vouched for me that I had track day experience, and I get a good rate on my GT3.
HAve to ring the day or so before and pay an small premium (£50 for gt3) for the day, but it is fully covered. (obviously with a large excess) for damage done to my car.
After a morning of phone calls with little joy, I finally called Sunninghill Insurance 0870 787 8017 and although the premium was £120 more than my old policy, it gives me cover for all track days organised by members of the AOTD, or what ever they are called, but includes all the main ones Goldtrack, RMA, Bookatrack etc etc. Excess for 1st track day is £2000 there after £1000. Very happy with the deal and off to Silverstone next week !

Liverpool Victoria - have the letter, none of the conditions mentioned above. Suggest you give them a phone, seems to be their answer differs depending on the knowledge of the person you speak to, so if they say no, call back and ask someone else - when they say yes, ask for it in writing. They also record all calls so note down date/time and person talking to.

Thanks, I was going to take the LV thing further. What Daz has said put me off though.
This a double post from the Porsche forum, so I'm putting it here for the folks who don't read that forum.
OK chaps, I’ve sorted a few things out.
In the end, I rang back my present insurer Aon. They have agreed to insure me on track days on my existing “every day” type policy. However, they want me to phone them before each track day to tell them the details about where it is and who is organising it. They then phone the underwriters and then get back to me with an additional charge. For example, I am driving at Croft on July 5th with the BMWCC and the underwriter said I must pay an additional £29, which I think is fair. They have charged me the same for Easy Track’s day at Oulton on 10 July. I intend to get the invoice sent to me so I have something in writing in case the worst happens.
Their annual quote for me is around £1100, which is reasonably competitive (for where I live in the darkest Toon). I am 30 with 4 years NCB and I drive a Boxster S worth around 29 grand. The cheapest quote I got was with the Halifax, just £750 but they don’t cover track days so this was a non-starter.
Hey Daz!!
I had a long chat with Liverpool Victoria again. Their quote was about the same, ie £1140. The rep on the phone insisted that track day cover was supplied free of charge and that I DID NOT have to be a member of the CSMA. I said that “there’s this lad called Daz with a 911 Turbo who would disagree with you on that one”, but she was sticking to her guns. She had a chat with her manager and they couldn’t tell me where the CSMA thing had come from. However, they wouldn’t send me a quote with it in writing that I didn’t need to be in the CSMA. They said that could only happen after I bought the policy and then customer services would send the paper work. I said that this happened to Daz and that was when the CSMA thing came to light, and that by then it was too late………but the girl had stopped listening to me by then.
So I have stuck with an Aon every day policy and I will pay the £29/track day no bother. What I would say about Aon is that their service is top notch. They don’t keep you hanging on the phone for ages and their staff are very polite. I am happy to be staying with them.
Oh yes, I did try the broker that Melv and Sean Dudding recommended to me and depending on what they say (they will ring me back), I might change at renewal time, but that’s not for a few months. Guys, is this broker a secret thing?!! The first thing they said when I phoned them was, “Who sent you?” and I replied, “so this is on a need to know basis, right?” It felt like I was ringing MI5 or something.

Like me, they want to know where their business is coming from.
Mel
And rightly so. I would ask for 50% off your next premium Melv.
They rang me back today (as they promised) and almost matched Aon's quote, but the cost per track day was £89. Aon only want £29. However, if Aon stop playing ball, I have someone else to go to.

The mysterious broker that Melv and Sean Dudding referred me to was Chris Wilkinson on 02087738123. It was he who quoted me the same basic premium as Aon but with a higher charge per track day (£89 as opposed to Aon's £29). So if Aon stop doing the track day thing, Chris Wilkinson will be an alternative.
Johnny,
But, assuming the worst does happen, the NU XS is only 2k, as opposed to the 3k that AON (RSA policy) want. If you consider how many t/days / N'ring trips you will actually do, the extra 60 quid per trip doesn't rack up to be that expensive over the year... IMHO! In your case the premium differential isn't very large - it was around £300 for me, which helps counter the extra t/day charge. Swings and roundabouts (& armco - hopefully not)!

You are right. I think part of the reason I am sticking with Aon for now is that I have been very impressed with their service and the staff (on the phone). I remember having to spell "SCHRICK" cams to a charming young lady from Aon on the phone when I modded my car. She hadn't a clue what I was on about, but I still kind of wanted to meet her for a nice meal somewhere. She sounded lovely. Except for the Dudley accent they all have at Aon!!

Chaps,
I am a GP and I therefore work for the government, but I doubt they'll let me join the CSMA, although I haven't tried yet.
Find out, You'll be suprised by the people that are allowed in. A friend worked for a private telecom co which did contracts for the gov, and they let them in!

Thanks, I will bear that in mind.
