600 bhp/ton and 4wd
Discussion
... for a mere £15K?
Just seen an advert for a V8 Dax Rush in hill/sprint trim. The specs look pretty spectacular: 0-60 circa 3 seconds, 0-64' sub 2 seconds, this thing is brutally fast. As you'd expect for 420 bhp in a lightweight locaterfield chassis with four wheel drive. I understand the Cosworth variant set the record for 0-100-0 in a road car a couple of years ago and this beast will eat that for breakfast.
Have to admit I've always hankered after something like this, but realistically I'd have to sell the V8S to pay for it. Now the Dax is hardly a practical road car which means I'd have to get another cheap motor for the daily grind. Can I face a commute in a eurobox? More important, could I really do without a TVR? It isn't just a car, it's a way of life.
Its a tough choice. How many years will it be before I get another chance to own a car like this? If only I could afford it as a play thing for track days and weekends ...

Here's my two pence Pete
Don't do it!! All you are going to be doing is changing one compromised road-going car for another even more compromised road going car and you'll have to get a eurobox daily driver.
I can understand your reasoning for wanting a change, as your V8S is probably about as developed as it could be given that its still an everyday driver, but my suggestion would be to keep the V8S and get a proper race car (single seater).
Initially given a limited budget (ie cost of selling V8S, buying DAX + Eurobox) your power to weight ratio would be similar to the V8S but the handling would be totally different and much more precise (all those lovely rose joints) but as funds permit you could upgrade to more powerful cars, then in future you will have slicks and wings to play with as well.
Because the car will be light, you can tow it with the V8S, get a detachable tow bar made up (I've seen TVRs towing before!!) and you'll still have the TVR for daily use, TVR track days, the odd sprint etc.
Best of both worlds!!
David
Will you be at Loton on Sunday, if so I'll be there to support as I only live 10 miles from the hillclimb now, but sadly at the moment don't have a TVR.
Also I can just see the V8S ad now.. I careful owner... no modifications....no sprints/track days... low mileage......

Do it.
You will only regret it if you don't and driving in a Eurobox is quite fun and handy for spares and bits.
What I want to know is how they have got the V8 hooked to the four wheel drive? Is this the next step for the 520.
PS this comment is nothing to do with the fact that you would move out of my class....

The DAX Rush is based around some 4wd Cosworth parts and mates a Ford MT75 gearbox to the Rover Engine, therefore 4 wheel drive. The tricky bit is probably getting it back through/past the engine (sump??) for the front wheels
The DAX Rush that won the Midland Hill Climb Championshiop Class in 2001 is also for sale with 415bhp John Eales 5 litre V8, buts thats £28,000, perhaps you could chop the 520 in for that one, then you and Pete can still be in the same class!!!

I bought the issue of Kit Car International that your car appeared in, mainly because it had "0-60 in 3.15 secs" on the front in big letters and I wanted to read the article.
Very impressive. I take it you sorted out all the niggles you had on that day? Did you post a faster 0-100-0 subsequently?
