How long is the correct amount of time to test drive a car in Switzerland? I know in the UK the garage salesman sometimes had to sit in the passenger seat looking all nervous, so the test drives where never that long. However in Switzerland they just hand you the keys and seem shocked when you come back, the one sales guy asked why I was back so early he said "did I not like the car". This weekend I took a car out for 40mins, but that just feels a bit wrong?

Also I took the car on the AutoBahn but we noticed the car didn't have the Swiss autobahnvignette, so can driving on car dealer plates allow you to avoid having this?

It seems to vary. I've borrowed a 911 for a weekend, other times the same garage only wanted me to drive a car for 30 minutes. But on average, nice long drives seem normal practice. Where are going to test the M?

This happened to me a few years ago.

The wife and I walked into OPC Bern. Had a look round, spoke to a salesman, but I can only speak English, so he finds a salesman that can speak English. Anyways, we get chatting about a Targa 4S, he says he has a demo, would I like a drive? I said no, he practically insisted. So I get ready to go out with him, he comes back over to me with the keys, and says here you go, enjoy!

At this point I was a little confused.... I said are you coming with me?, no he says, take the wife for a drive....

He had no address for me, no driving licence but had complete faith in me.

We drove for about 30mins, had a blast, went back and said we will think about it... still didnt ask me any of my details!

Well, usual practice is to get a photocopy of the driving licence before leaving the garage. At least he has some proof of the driver taking out the demo.
