A man driving a Porsche lost control over his vehicle in Neuheim on Tuesday evening. It then came off the road and overturned several times before coming to a standstill in a field.

The incident happened at around 10.50 pm as the 60-year-old Swiss driver was on Edlibachstrasse in Neuheim travelling towards Sihlbrugg. For some unknown reason, the Porsche 911 he was driving veered off the road on the left-hand side, crashed through a cattle-fence and fell down an embankment, overturning several times as it did so.

The driver sustained serious head injuries and was flown by Rega helicopter to a specialist hospital in Zurich for treatment. Latest reports indicate he is still in a critical condition. The car was totally written-off, with damage amounting to several tens of thousands of francs.

It is not yet clear whether excess speed was the cause of the accident, which happened in a 80 kph zone, or whether the road surface was icy. There is no crash barrier on the section of road where the accident happened and police have appealed for witnesses to call them on 041 728 41 41.
