Modified Cars and Switzerland
Discussion
Hello,
I thought that I should post this in here as its most likely to get good replys!
Next year me and several friends (most likely 4 or 5 of us) will be travelling to the International Mini Meet which is being held in St Stephan in June. Obviously we will be travelling in classic Minis, so my main question is how frowned upon are modified cars? We all have reasonably loud exhausts (approx 100dB) and a couple of us have had engine changes. We know that were going to have to keep it sensible and not piss anyone off, but will we be singled out because of modifications?
Thanks in advance,
The Mini Mole.

you'll be fine, all the BS about the swiss hating cars is just that, BS.
Only word or warning is DON'T SPEED! speeding fines here will make your eyes water - and are unlimited, and can lead you to a stay in prison. Lots of cameras on the main roads into switzerland and all the systems are linked, so they could catch you on border crossing on the way out, or even if your parked in a city (traffic wardens have pda's and check all cars for any outstanding tickets)

Thanks, this is the sort of reply I wanted, hence posting here not in GG.
We all know that were going to have to keep it sensible while were there but we want to make the most of the twistys
I cant wait to go again- I've only been the once and Loved it, its a wonderful place, should be fantastic in my little Mini!

Great advice that, stick to speed limits and you will be welcome. Limits are either 30kph or 50 KPH in towns as marked, and a mere 80kph on all other non-motorways, back lanes, etc. The Swiss tend to drive faster, but don't be lulled into speeding up. A national sport is to goad foreigners in to speeding up just before cameras! Another thing to watch out for is the Priority from the Right rule at cross roads. Check wikipedia if you are not sure about that.
+1 advise to speed limits on main roads
The swiss have gone speed camera crazy, they even stick them on ski pistes now !
Not many speed cameras on mountains roads though, particularly the smaller ones (B roads)
This is where you see Modded Scoobies doing 100mph+
Never looked into legal situation, but there are modded swiss cars. Maybe requires something equivalent to TUV approval ?
