I assume you're kiding, but for the sake of completeness, here's a roadwork report from last week...

The passes are all fab, but there are a few roadworks right now. Use them as rest stops and you'll be fine. Not sure how this affects the traffic at weekends, but during the week there wasn't that much.

Berninapass has a few roadworks on it to start with, but is lovely afterwards.

Albulapass is amazing but roadworks aplenty on the far (Tiefencastel) side

Julierpass is OK but the least nice of the four main ones around there.

Malojapass is OK but quite a few roadworks right now.

And if you want to go just a wee bit further afield, then Furkapass right now is in lovely condition - no roadworks at all!

And the best bit is you can do pretty much all of them in a weekend!

Ciao Andrew

I was up in Silvaplana the past 6 or 7 weekends as I had to complete the 52 hours social service in the forests to be able to do the hunting permit up there. I also know the roads quite well as I went to school up there 12 Years ago.

I suggest you try flüela first. Julier had quite some traffic the past weeks. I also saw my special friend in the blue suits quite often.

I also did the Albula one time and the Chimaera didn't really enjoy it. I took over a Gallardo that was traveling at 25 Km/h because he just couldn't go faster over the shaky road.

You could try to go down over Maloja and come back over Bernina.

Cheers

PS: you might see my little brother and his girly... I gave him the Maranello for the weekend (birthday present)... say hello if you do ;-)

Think I might head towards Furka/Grimsel/Susten again this weekend- Graubunden is too far for me.

Have fun- I'll be waving like an idiot at any nice motors I see coming the other way!

Maybe he should have got a cheaper car with better suspension!

Seriously, those big supercars aren't really suited to passes in my opinion. Having done them in both, I'd take a small, nippy car over a big powerful one every time. Much more fun.

Yes, it's not smooth, but that is part of the fun of it for me - even in a car without the super suspension that the latest Atoms boast.

Hi Andrew
doppioespresso is right, Albula is not soooo "comfortable", Julier has some heavy traffic, Maloja is great with some very tight bends, as is Bernina, from there towards Bormio then back via Umbrail, or from Bormio towards Livigno (very cheap petrol :-)) ..tax-free...) then back to CH via alternating-traffic-tunnel, follow the Fuorn-valley towards Zernez,up the Fluela or depending on traffic take the
train via Vereina-Tunnel....

There are still holidays :-(( met a few errant caravans on the A 13 todaymadcry

Sorry I am in Germany at the moment, otherwise we would surely have met you.
We did some passes as driven a few weeks ago with 5 AMG (1 SLS) and our small TTS leading last week-end, great fun, as usual, and....similar weather.waveydriving

Regards to you and your family

Thanks Rainer, we had a great time in our too-large supercars with crappy suspension, I must remember to buy an Atom wink

Hope to see you & Dot soon!

Go on, Andrew... you know you want to...

(As the founder of the Ariel Atom Owners Club I am ever so slightly biased)

I don't really see the point of them though. If I want a proper track car I have an SR3RS. For the road, I couldn't ever imagine wanting an Atom over a 16M. It sort of falls into an awkward niche that doesn't really appeal to me. I've had the fast Caterham ages ago. But I can see why other people like them, so all power to your elbow beer

Hey, how cool an Atom... Ahh st... it's raining... see you later pal ;-)

just kidding... i'm quite sure they are very cool to drive but I wouldn't want one for my beloved weekend trips. I love my Maranello for the Piedmont trip in the truffle season (November) and the TVR offers all the fun (incl. V8 sound) if I want to bring my huge Dog with ;-)

Also I am quite sure the Gallardo wasn't only bought for that one Albula trip...

Doppio - how come you have a UK tax disc on your TVR ?

Yes, my dog prefers the 430, but his favourite is the Volvo, so what does he know?

He quite likes the Atom to look at, though...

Well I bought the car in London and then drove it back to Switzerland and then had it registered here. I somehow think the whole UK shabang belongs to the car, so I left it ;-)
