I need to get 4 new winter pneus, probably from reifendirekt or similar.

Question is, is it cheaper to buy them now (less demand, lower price ?), or wait until Autumn ?

Or are prices fairly constant throughout the year ?

try http://pneuonline.ch/ they are quite cheap, send directly to your house and will give a list of tyre fitters close to you.

don't know that there is much difference between summer and winter prices. What winter tyres are you thinking of going for? loads of great info here http://www.tirerack.com/ and here http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/

Size is 225/45 R17 XL for a Saab Aero kombi.

Considering some Continental ContiWinterContact TS 830Ps, as the reviews seem OK...

I've used these guys. Much cheaper than CH, and deliver to your door or dealer.

You occasionally see the online tyre places doing an extry 2% off at the end of a season or promtions during the world cup or similar but I'm not aware of any accross the board sale periods etc. I'm thinking about new boots too and the main advantage of doing it in the summer is to avoid the tyre fitters all being booked up at peak times (April/May & November/December).

The whole area of website domains for these entities is a contrived mess though and they appear to keep changing year after year!

I have rcently found that the main French outfit is always worth cross checking against the main German one (Delti).
