Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a very good and well respected wheel refurbisher here- much like Lepsons in the UK who have a great reputation? Plus an idea on price?

Both sets of alloys on the Pork could do with refreshing- winter wheels general wear and tear, and 3 of my summer wheels have been kerbed by my wife...

Even worse, the 2 front alloys on our Golf are ruined thanks to the mother in law, and will need some serious attention. Doesn't help that they are black with diamond polished rims...

I want to avoid the likes of ASAG/AMAG as they will rip you off and in all probability not do a good enough job.
The alternative is to drive over to the UK, drop the car off for a couple of days at KDS Keltec for Kim to do a full detail, and for Lepsons next door to refurb the wheels. I'm liking this option, but doesn't really solve the VW wheels problem as I'm certain they won't fit in the Pork...

This place has a good reputation and I've used them once myself. They are in the Vaud countryside north of Lausanne and speak English if you need to!

A straight refurb of my OEM 17" wheels cost me CHF 100 each from memory plus reasonable postage.

They painted the inside of my wheels with the OEM-look primer colour and then sliver on the faces and lacquered all over. I'd give them 95/100 as the outside face was pretty perfect but there were one or two trivial marks in the laquer on the inside and I'm not sure that the inside is supposed to be fully lacquered to the same degree in any case.

You can send your wheels to them in the post relatively inexpensively (individually, in cardboard boxes) but you do need to have the tyres taken off first. They suggest that you should be able to pick up suitable boxes from places that sell wheels but I found that the sort of boxes you use for moving house can be adapted with a decent amount of gaffa tape!

Cheers!

I agree these people are good. They have been in this business since ages, even if they stared out as specialists for widening steel rims. Have seen some Porsche "Fuchs" wheels widened with the welding of a rim extension. Perfect and looked OEM quality

Anyone heard of or used this firm? www.felwag.ch

One of the wheels on my car has developed an air leak. Thought it was a slow puncture so took it to the local pneu shop. They put it in the tank and air was coming out of the inside of the rim which is a 3 piece. I read somewhere else that all nuts and bolts must be replaced on any repair so it needs to be done by a specialist. Met the owner of this shop at Auto Zurich and they seem to know what they are about. Any other firms closer to ZH?

Sorry about the wrong address but hopefully you get the idea. Got a quote for Sf 250 to repair including collection which is ok but the way the CHF is heading, I could probably get all 4 done for that price in Germany or other neighbouring country. Suggestions still welcome.

250 for a wheel, that's pretty steep but typically in line with prices here. Pity the UK is a bit too far....
