NEW speed camera - basel
Discussion
Just to let you know I have seen a new speed camera in operation, if you come from the weil am rhein border on the highway you through a tunnel just on the outskirts of the city, the camera is INSIDE the tunnel about 50-60 metres from the exit. The limit is 80kmh and it seems to triger at 90kmh, I got Flashed last week and saw some others flashed today, i am waiting for ticket to arrive..... unfortunatly!!
Grrr, that is pure daylight robbery. Sorry to hear you got caught. Its like one that is situated opposite the Philip Morris factory in Neuchâtel (Lausanne-Neuchâtel direction). In a 60km/h zone, it flashes at around 62. I know cause I got zapped at the beginning. Now I drive super slow passing by....
yep the co ordinates are 47°33'56.70"N 7°36'27.88"E looking on the map this is in the middle of a road junction but the tunnel is underneath of course! camera is in the weil am rhein > basel direction on the A2
ill try a street view link, the camera is in the area of the white truck.
stay to 80km and remember there is another camera on the exit of the tunnel on the gantry!

IIRR this camera is just outside the first tunnel (Schwarzwaldtunnel under the Badische Bahnhof) coming from Weil on the gantry, BUT I may be wrong as this was well known an people braked for it, so they may well have moved it into the tunnel........ sneaky barstewards....

Hi gents, do you know.... if a UK registered car is flashed on a Swiss camera will the fine find its way back to the owner or not? I'll be passing through Switzerland in a couple of weeks time, and whilst I have no intention of driving at silly speeds it would be good know just how careful I have to be. Many thanks.

Just wait until the new "average" speed calculator cameras are installed. Apparently the first tests (in the French part of Switzerland) will be done between Aigle and Bex after the summer. If the tests are conclusive (will/can they be anything else??) its going to be jackpot time and keep the money rolling. If only they found other ways than speeding to make money. How about all the drivers zigzagging all over the place with a mobile screwed on the ear?? That's a darn sight more dangerous than driving a bit over the clock on a motorway, no?

I have been driving through Swissyland over the last 10 years with a UK reg car.I have never been sent a ticket, and I know I have been flashed numerous times, and quite likely even more times with out knowing. So no you will not recieve a ticket..... BUT
I do not doubt that they have a file somewhere with all these tickets awaiting the one day when I am involved with the legal system. It maybe:
Border Checks (although I am regulary stopped at these and give my details over)
Police stop for speeding (been lucky, not been stopped yet)
Accident (again, not done this)
The day I declare myself at the cantonal/immigration offices for working/living permit (next year)
I always try not to speed there, and drive in fear (quite like the locals I know)
Just stay safe and wait for Italy or Germany, and then let rip.
Best of luck!

Thanks for the replies gents. I'll take it easy, but sounds like I don't need to be too concerned if flashed.
Also, I've bought a vignette in advance...will this reduce queueing time at the border?
it'll save you about a minute ..... unless they don't like the look of you and want to inspect the carAlso, I've bought a vignette in advance...will this reduce queueing time at the border?
As for the speeding tickets - averaging about 2-3 a month driving around Zurich/Basel/Wadenswil. Easy to miss the drop from 60 to 50 kph. Luckily no point on licence here
The EC (and CH) will be much stricter, if I remember, from autumn onwards, speed-fines over EUR 70.-- AFAIK can be channelled to the local
authorities.
Kindly correct me if you know more.
Generally speeding is expensive, but you will not have speed-cameras on very twisty roads as nobody hits the limits there (80kmh), so no
"interesting income for security reasons" ;-) Passes are less infested, but beware of police-motorbikes.
