Porsche owners - anybody used German OPCs?
Discussion
Amag Zug want CHF 700 to fit a passenger airbag deactivation switch in my GT3 which I think is daylight robbery. So it got me thinking about getting it done in Germany. Does anybody use German OPC's for any work? Or for that matter, Italian, Austrian or French?
Yes I know by the time I've driven there the petrol and time hassle will probably outweigh any cost saving - but with the weather the way it is, the drive will be allocated to the "enjoying the car anyway" account and not the airbag account.
Should I also ask on EF?

for a 996 GT3 there is only one possiblity and very expensive ie a Posche babyseat and the accompanying electronics mods would cost about € 1500,- with installation
for a 997 there is a keyed switch which with installation would cost around €400,-
Hope that helps!

When I was having GT3 thoughts before I bought the Lotus Porsche Zurich said that it was 'easy' to put rear seats in the back of a GT3. You need to have the model with the normal sports seats which can fold forward. The mounting points for the rear seats are already there (apparently) behind the carpet. It then needs to go to the authorities to get documentation changed but again I was told that this was a formality and that they could arrange this.
The switch to switch the airbag off isn't as simple as it would first appear. Airbags are designed to work even if the electric current to them has stopped. Lotus couldn't offer a switch in the Elise and suggested building without the airbag if I really didn't want it. In the end it seems because the Elise passenger seat is fixed far back, that the airbag might not even extend as far as a secured child. The owner manual says that children must be secured but can ride in the front.

Cheers. Unfortunately I've got a clubsport with the scaffolding in the back so there's no chance of fitting rear seats. I'm not at all worried about him travelling in the front anywayThe switch to switch the airbag off isn't as simple as it would first appear. If you can afford a Porsche what difference does CHF 700 make to you.
Christopher's paying for it out of his pocket money. We had a long talk. I told him "you play, you pay". He seemed happy with thatGassing Station | Switzerland | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
