Will hopefully be picking up a 996tt a week on Saturday. Can anyone recommend the best place to take it from Zürich to give it a good run out. Some scenery would be nice and a mixture of good roads. I wouldn't be averse to a tunnel or two either wink

My first thoughts were head towards Basel and then into the Black Forest, hopefully finding some unrestricted Autobahn by looping back round on the German side of the border and coming back into CH via Shaffhausen or Konstanz.

Thoughts? Better suggestions? Anything I need to be worried about (cameras etc)?

Come with me, I'm going to Maranello to see Ferrari & Pagani. After that I will have to unleash my "Cavallino Rampante" and ride it over a nice pass over the Apenin towards Tuscany... ;-)

Plenty of good roads in the southern Black Forest but they WILL be infested with bikers as soon as the sun comes out, so watch out for the leaners whose heads are on your side of the road! I usually hoon very early on Sunday mornings...
Autobahns are all restricted south of Freiburg (apart from about 5km from Efringen-Kirchen to Weil)

Thanks for the offer. Will definitely consider it. I'd be a little concerned that I'll hold you back as I'm still going to be getting to know the car. I'm new to 4wd and rear mounted engines, so for obvious reasons won't be gunning it in the twisties. I guess you would be setting off pretty early too? I would have to see about picking the car up on Friday evening, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing? wink Would be slightly concerned about being chased out of Maranello by people with pitchforks and stty sticks lol

Kudos for having a tiv over here. If I could find a (reasonably priced) lhd Tuscan, the Porsche wouldn't be getting a look in!

hmm might be worth making a weekend of it then and getting up early on the Sunday. Can you recommend anywhere to stay and is the Schluchsee worth heading for in terms of scenery or is it too obvious a tourist trap and therefore reached by congested roads?

Avoid Schluchsee (and Titisee) itself and the B500 near there, as you thought a tourist trap and possibly high traffic. Deffo a place where the bikers and thus BiB congregate.
Try taking the smaller valley roads running N-S on the southern edge of the Black Forest
Steinatal
Schlüchttal
Albtal (one of the best)
Bad Säckingen Bergsee to Todtmoos
Wehratal

Todtnau to Freiburg - Schauinsland pass (old race track and bikes not allowed, lots of fast long curves and some hairy ones!

Müllheim, Schweighof, Neuenweg, Wembach, Schönau

From Titisee B31west and the B500 North, Wagensteig west, then St Märgen and the Kandelpass (watch for pushbikers) to Waldkirch, then turn NW for 3 miles then back SW up the Simonstal to Furtwangen
Good hotels there!

Feel free to ask for more.........
