Removing number plates
Discussion
Trying to get the plates off my SV ready for the GT3 at the weekend but the plate holders aren't those simple ones with a "dealer strip" that just slides off the allow the plates to drop out.
The front has two small holes at the bottom, see pics, but I've tried putting a small allen key in there and pushing gently with no results.
The rear plate seems to be mounted on a metal rail, but the plate does not slide from side to side. I was wondering if I need to try to "fold" the plate and then pull it backwards.
Any suggestions? (englishforum has already told me to go and ask a garage, which obviously was a startling piece of advice and something I hadn't already thought of)

did you get them off yet? I posted on english forum (bigblue2) we have the easy open ones on our cars now, but the ones on them before where like yours (looked like it anyway), you had to slide the plate up which gives you a tiny gap to pull it from the bottom out, but we still managed to break the holder.
Failing that can you not just take the whole plate off? break the holder and stick on the easy open ones, migros home and hobby sell them.

Hi - yes I saw your post on EF, many thanks. Still not got them off, dropped a line to the dealer. I'm probably not pushing something hard enough.
EF seems to be full of people who have nothing better to do. Idiots.
you know they hate cars EF seems to be full of people who have nothing better to do. Idiots.
as always it was easy to see how it fitted in (and out) once I had broken the frame.
but your grill it probably worth more then our car so BFI method probably isn't a good idea.
Andrew - if you don't get any luck with the dealer or on the forums (well definitely not with English Forum), let me know and I can pop up one evening or on the weekend and take a look (2 minds and all that).
I would imagine that it is firmly and securely attached especially on a car that can hit 200MPH as the usual dealer ones are a bit flimsy.

Your first pic: above the "hole" (that you stuck an allen key into) on the side of the plate holder you can see a line accross the holder - is there one on the other side of the holder?
I think that this is the break in the holder and you can snap off the botom of the holder to allow you to release the plate by then pulling the plate downwards and out.
Failing that <EFmodeon> why not take it to your dealer? <EFmodeoff>

Don't be such a wimp man. Put the post on EnglishForum. I can dictate it for you....
"I want to take my plate off my Lamborghini to put it on my Porsche. That way I can tear up the Swiss Alp passes annoying locals"
Press "send", sit back and enjoy.
