My car is booked in this week for its once every 2 years "Einladung zur Fahrzeugprüfung" (Invitation to car test) or MFK (Swiss MOT).

I have had the tyres swapped to winter and will wash the car inside and out before the test. Do I really need the engine bay cleaned as it looks pretty spotless to me and the car does not leak oil?

BMW main dealer garage did the last MFK, but charged an tidy sum to take it around the corner for 25 minutes work (and the MFK only cost 57chf), so the wife is doing it this time biggrin

If it is fairly clean I would not bother. Took my BMW a month ago, the engine bay had not been cleaned for two years since the last control. Had no problems at all. Although it can depend on the person doing the inspection.

We have never cleaned the engine bay of the Subaru and it flied through its 5 year test without any problems.

My car passed its MFK today with no issues. So looks like the test isn't as strict as I had heard and I certainly didn't get the engine bay cleaned so thanks for the info.
