I'm planning a little trip to the Swiss Alps next June with a small group of us in classic cars with the aim of spending 2 days doing the Furka, Susten, Klausen etc.

As I have never been to the Alps before, I was wondering if anyone had any suggstions for hotels in the area around Meiringen that would have suitable / secure parking ?

I imagine the area is pretty safe anyway for parking cars ? ( ref thieving little toe-rags ? )

Honestly i wouldnt worry about it. Car theft here is very low.

Enjoy the trip - those are some excellent passes.

sounds good smile

Is it easier to find accomodation on spec rather than booking in advance ?

One of the best things about having a driving holiday in Switzerland is seeing a nice looking place and just stopping there for the night IMO. In June you will not have a problem as it's nowhere near as busy as it gets in July and August (you should still plan on a few early starts on the "alpine pass" days though to get the best fun on quiet roadsbiggrinbiggrin There are lots of really nice pensions or guesthouses that do dinner B+B, all are spotlessly clean and are usually bedecked in geraniums.

Security is not really a problem to worry about at all.

Hallo

I fully agree with Fuchs and Camel :-

Have a look here: www.myswitzerland.com

Enjoy your drive and keep us informed, so we may do some kind of a meeting on a pass

Varies from year to year and which pass, but generally speaking the first snows close them in November and the higher ones won't open until June. There's still plenty of other good roads around though and for previously mentioned traffic reasons June is preferable to July/August.smile

This is the site I use to check what the current status is:

If you are doing Furka, you MUST also do the Grimsel!

I've got the ferry booked etc , so the road trip is on smile

Any suggestions as the best directions to tackle the passes?

The plan is to have 2 days driving them, with both days starting in Interlaken. As I'll have my wife with me, I won't be doing big miles each day.
